I got both my vaccines recently. I'm not in a qualified group, but I am at risk and also am around my 88 year old at risk mother daily. She already received both of hers.

A place giving it to first responders had cancellations and extras. The guy in charge is a friend of a friend and called my friend desperately looking for arms so they didn't have to discard any vaccine. I went. While there, I heard the folks administering it talking to others who I think were called in. They said they have a 6 hour window once the vial is opened to use it. The State told them to find arms whatever way they could rather than tossing the vaccine. That makes more sense then throwing it away.

I think it's a good idea for those places to have a backup signup list in case they have extra doses that have to be used rather than scurrying around trying to find arms last minute and risking tossing it.

As long as you post it online with a picture of you getting it, a separate picture of the sticker you got and a paragraph long speech WHO YOU ARE GETTING VACCINATED FOR, it's exactly what needs to be done

Then you didn't REALLY get vaccinated. I bet you don't even have an "I choose to wear a mask" or "stay home save lives" facebook profile picture frame

No, I do not have such a Facebook profile picture.

I better have gotten vaccinated because my arm was sore as hell for days after the second injection.

I want to upvote you because you make a valid point but the way you spelled "vial" has me really questioning what to do here. I'm going to have to think on this some more.

Mingo regrets the error. I was at a red light

There's a myriad of personal reasons why some won't take it, doesn't make them an idiot.

I hope most do and we can get back to normal sooner but if someone chooses not to it should be their right.

Nothing wrong with putting yourself on the list if you can. Your tax dollars went to support this program, it's your vaccine

It sounds like supply is outpacing demand in a lot of areas. I have talked to a few people who called Wal Mart to get their waste list and the pharmacy just made them an appointment because eligible people aren't filling the appointments. They have to use their supply of vaccines or they won't get more.

Thanks for the idea. I called a couple of places and got myself on a standby list.

Unfortunately not the case in Alabama, or at least in the Birmingham area. I'm fine waiting a few more weeks though.

Exactly. The fact that I might not be eligible here but would be eligible 25 miles away is stupid.

I’m getting it Monday in a place where I am eligible. Guilt? Zero. I woke up this morning, grabbed my phone, logged onto Walgreens.com and grabbed an appointment. About 60 seconds of work.

If you are eligible and don’t have an appointment, you sure aren’t trying very hard.

In the NOLA area, they have had appointments into the 100s available at the end of the day at the mass vaccination sites. If you want an appointment in the area one can easily be found either that day or within the week.

The government picking and choosing of who to add to the eligibility list show the primary goal isn't getting it to the most at risk. If that was the goal it would go strictly by age and pre-existing medical conditions. That is the main reason I wouldn't feel bad about getting one.

If you sign up for the vaccine and you are under 40 and with no commodities - you are a pussy slowing down the process for all the old fogies who really need it

I think the biggest problem in the Birmingham area is UAB is getting a bulk of the vaccines and they're still working through getting all their healthcare workers and educators vaccinated, in addition to all the local residents over 75 and with health issues. I know several people here that have driven to towns an hour+ outside of Birmingham and have had no problem getting an appointment.

I understood not everyone is internet savvy but the old fogies need to put forth a little effort.

Example. My GFs dad. 74, overweight, diabetes. Hadn’t gotten one. Why? He was “waiting for his doctor to call him with an appointment”.

Immediately after that phone call, my Gfs sister got him an appointment for two days later.

This guy has an iPhone and uses the internet. Just never occurred to him to put forth a little effort.

I get my second shot tomorrow. My only side effect (outside of feeling bad for 1 night post shot) so far has been an increased sex drive

Scummy move because you're "jumping the line?" Or just making sure a dose doesn't go to waste due to bureaucratic rules?

There's what's called a "waste" list as well at places. You're on the wait list for shots that would be wasted or thrown away. Calling it scummy for someone to try and get a vax however they can if allowed is dumb.
