Not all side effects to vaccines are bad. Running a fever is a sign that your body is having an immune response to the vaccine, which is good and needed, so long as the virus is dead*.

*The Moderna vaccine doesn't use the virus. It uses messenger RNA to program cells to produce the antigen that thereby teaches the immune system to produce antibodies.

The Covaxin vaccine uses an inactivated (dead) form of the virus for immune system exposure.

I have not gotten the vaccine yet, but I know several people in NOLA who have gotten it before their category was called.

Supply does not seem to be an issue the NOLA area. They were trying to get people to come out and fill appointments at 2pm at the convention center. At this point it seems like they should just open it and let those who want it get it. Picking and choosing who is “essential” isn’t ensuring it is going to the most vulnerable, that went out the window weeks ago.

I got my first Pfizer shot on Tuesday at a FEMA vaccine center in Orlando. It was opened one day early to accommodate any law enforcement officer that wanted it. I was one of the oldest officers there and I have absolutely no problem with younger officers taking advantage of the vaccine.

Same goes with anybody willing to step up and prevent a shite from going to waste. Good for them.

The bottom line is that this is about self protection and herd immunity. We all benefit by as many people as possible being vaccinated.

If a medical professional wants to stick the needle in my arm, then any moral element to the situation is on them, not me.

If it goes to waste otherwise, why not?

I got mine the other day via stand-by list. I kind of felt a little guilty, but whatever. They were going to throw it out anyways.

Once the vile has been thawed it has to be used or thrown away. Better you use it than it be completely wasted

I want to upvote you because you make a valid point but the way you spelled "vial" has me really questioning what to do here. I'm going to have to think on this some more.

I have some conditions that make me high risk, so I had the second immunization earlier this week and was very happy to get it. It has been my experience that virtually anyone who wants the vaccine can get it. You might not get an appointment exactly when you want it or exactly where you want it...but anyone who is reasonably persistent and flexible can get a vaccine. So, I would not hesitate to get the vaccine if someone wants it...particularly in the circumstances you mention.

If you want it, get it. There are so many places now that have extras.

You sound like someone who would bitch about virtue signaling, but then non-ironically, and without any self-awareness, post comments on message boards that serve no purpose other than to signal your virtue.

Good for you, I hear its about 35% effective

Where? Where, exactly, have you heard that the vaccines are only 35% effective against the virus’s most severe consequences? I want sources cited and exact quotes that say it is 35% effective. Because everything I’ve seen shows that after the second shot, they’re roughly 95% effective against death and hospitalization from the virus. You can still catch the virus with the vaccine, which is true with most virus vaccines. This vaccine protects a person from the more serious symptoms more than preventing the person from catching the virus in the first place. The flu vaccine works much the same way.

I’ll await your proof.

One of my coworkers, 31-32 years old, got one and I'm not sure how he did it. Dallas County, Texas. Not sure if we're at a "free for all" stage yet, havent kept up since the initial release.

The powers that be here are telling everyone to sign up regardless of age or underlying condition. They will contact you when it's your turn. Anectdotedly (sp) , anyone who takes an elderly relative to get the jab is given one too. To me, that's more efficient and you shouldn't feel guilty.

Different states and counties are rolling out vaccines in their own way.

You may not be eligible where you are, but two counties over you’d be golden.

If the people in charge can’t agree on who should get it and when, then why would you feel any sort of guilt?

Nothing wrong with being a standby.

If you think you need the vaccine that is.

Like the mask to each their own with their health decisions or that is how it should be anyway. If the vaccine would have gone to waste because of a cancelation it is better to give it to someone who wants it than just having to throw it imo. In my wife's case, Germany is offering it to people above 80 and health care workers and teachers right now. My wife would be able to get the vaccine before her 79 1/2 year old mother would right now. We both think that is kind of stupid and she who is in good health and has already had the virus and was asymptomatic thinks it would be a dick move to get it before the most vulnerable in society. Again though to each their own with their own health choices and what is available to them.

On the am national news this am they are saying Zoos have vaccinated great apes yesterday, so on a pure priority system if you are waiting for a shot, you are less than an ape in priority... just saying!
