You know, people tend to forget, but there's another prominent statue of General Beauregard in the city...atop his tomb in Old Metairie Cemetary. You pass it every time you get off I-10 at City Park Avenue.
Mitch really can't remove that one, because that would be grave desecration. So if he can't take that one down, then what's really the point in taking the one in City Park down? I mean if the one in City Park is so "offensive", then the one on his tomb should be equally "offensive", right?

Just inside the city limits. You pass the sign on I-10 just as you approach the cemetary.

Yep...
It's also a private cemetery, so he can't do shite about it... Oh yeah, It's not "Old Metairie Cemetery" just Metairie Cemetery, which was once a race track called Metairie Race Coarse... It was on Bayou Metairie which is now Metairie Road... Some remnants of Bayou Metairie are still part of the lagoon system in City Park which runs along City Park Ave..
There's also a Confederate monument at Greenwood Cemetery, across the Expressway from Metairie, with the bust of four Generals at the base...

Better watch it, Spoons Landrieu may try anyway, even if they're on private property. Greenwood is owned by the Firemen's Benevolent Association.

Judge denies request for temporary restraining order to keep Beauregard monument in place

NEW ORLEANS -- Judge Kern Reese denies a request for a temporary restraining order to keep the Beauregard monument in place.
Richard Marksbury, a member of the Monumental Task Committee, said he filed a lawsuit in Orleans Parish Civil District Court seeking a temporary restraining order that would prevent the city from removing the statue.
Marksbury said City Park was sold the land in 1900. Despite the fact the Beauregard monument is across the street from the park, Marksbury said that at the time of the sale, there was no street and the statue and the land were an extension of the park itself.
A hearing is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday May 10.
In addition, Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser, a monuments supporter, sent a letter to the park's chairman of the board, asking that he protect the monument.

I wonder what reason the judge gave to allow the city to remove someone else's property.
Maybe they are considering it a parking violation. PGT hasn't moved in a long time.
