Housing prices are generally about the same

I'm really not familiar with the BatonRouge housing market but there are great deals to be had in Monroe. You wouldn't know it from the asking prices but reasonable offers get accepted that don't approach those asking prices. And if you're willing to drive you can get fantastic deals on country spreads in Caldwell or Richland Parishes. (Morehouse too but if you have kids keep them out of Bastrop.)

Ten years ago I would have given Monroe the edge on outdoor activities due to some of the finest duck hunting in the world within an hour's drive but the ducks have been unreliable in recent years. Small deer are still plentiful but not a lot of trophies up here. Good fishing but South La probably gets the edge there without even counting the Gulf.

Monroe is simply teeming with beautiful women. BR might match in raw numbers but Monroe fields as high a percentage of talent as any city in the South. Anyone who disputes that has simply never been to Monroe.

All in all, family is all that really keeps me in Monroe. It has it's good points but in all honesty I would recommend BR unless you're looking to buy land in the country.

Is that place still open..I remember my grandfather had the menu memorized by day and I would gain 30 pounds when I stayed there during the summers...

What an odd time for someone to cut onions in the office..bastards

It's still open and still good. Tough call to eat there or Big Mama's when in that area for lunch.

The fact that this is even a discussion shows how terrible BR's star has fallen in the last few years.

I'm not familiar with that place, its been easily 20 years since I've eaten at the kitchen..Its not exactly a place I could convince my wife and kids to go to while we're in town..I'm lucky enough to trick them into Taco Bandito

Soul food Southern style eatery off South 2nd near St. Francis. Maybe 10-15 years? Yeah not for the wife/kids really but plate lunches joints are pure gold.

BR has some good spots as well. Bellue's, Zeeland etc have solid plates. Guess Tony's too.

What do you do for a living?

Are you a homebody or outdoorsy type?

mentioned WM for a reason..If you live in Denham or surrounding areas, you get a better deal than living in BR..Same thing for the Ouachita area..

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that.

For what you pay for a house in a middle/upper class neighborhood with a small lot, in the LP, you can get a ~2K/sq ft house and 5 acres in Swartz.

Eta:
Nevermind.
I reread your post and see what you are saying now.

North La >>>
If you like the Deep South culture, Protestants, upland pine woods, etc.
better hunting but obviously no salt water fishing.

I love all that. North LA is “just another” Mississippi Alabama Georgia.. not exactly but it’s similar yes.

haven't been in Funroe in a long arse time. But as a Baton Rouge native, I'm going to say Monroe would be a better option going forward. BR headed down a path to being Jackson, Detroit, Chicago, etc in a hurry.

not to mention the weather would be slightly cooler. less of a hurricane threat. still within reasonable distance to a lot major cities in the south. hopefully less "cultcha" becoming biased politicians and expediting Baton Rouge's turn to a 3rd world country.

How so? It’s not that far away from BR. I could see maybe a 3-5 degree difference in temperature.

That’s a myth. It’s scientifically proven that it gets just as hot if not hotter in Monroe than it does in BR. It’s not like Monroe is up in some high elevation or something. It’s just as flat and is surrounded by water just like BR.

Out in the country, the night time temperatures are just a tick cooler and there is a slight difference in the humidity.
