Yeah, I’m not lookin’ for nightlife outside of dinner and some live music. Love fishin’, have a bass boat, and would love to live on some water. I’m leanin’ Monroe or surrounding area. The job in Baton Rouge is just more enticing.

So, Monroe is amazing for the first part. The outdoor life around here could never be matched by BR. We have some decent venues, and some very good restaurants (if you like local flair).

Honest truth, though. There are a hundreds of Monroes in this country. Unless you think your career would flourish here, I’d let my career take me where it may.

You want to raise a family and have a solid quality of life, this area is pretty damn good. It sucks for growth.

Retail management. But being close to my grown kids is a factor.
Memphis is also an option, but it’s just a little far...

If the Northshore was an option, I’d take it in a heartbeat. But it’s not on the menu.

You know South Louisiana has all that to offer too right??
What part of Baton Rouge is your job? Or is it Port Allen, Denham Springs or Gonzalez?

It would be in Baton Rouge. Is the drive from Gonzales north to BR terrible?

You just made me cry thinking of that drive. I still cringe coming in on a Friday afternoon for LSU games.

Depends on what time of the day. That stretch of interstate is being widened right now. It also depends on where you'd be commuting to in BR. To Highland or Siegen it wouldn't be bad.

Grew up in Baton Rouge and lived in Monroe for a few years for college. I liked how much smaller Monroe is than BR and you don’t have to deal with traffic in Monroe like you do in BR. People are really friendly and nice but Monroe is a shithole. The unemployment rate is like 25% and the town is based on small businesses which isn’t bad but having nothing but small businesses won’t really help you advance economically and technologically. It’s a very old school city and it looks like you’re living in the early 2000s when you go there. Very old town. The culcha in both cities is really bad and that’s what is ruining Monroe but the culcha isn’t as violent as BR.

Baton Rouge has more to do, a very successful university with great athletic programs unlike Monroe. You’re close to NOLA, and there is great outdoor life around BR where you could be pretty happy if that’s what you like to do. Monroe has great outdoors life too but I’d prefer South LA outdoors life any day. There are more jobs and more money in BR thanks to lots of corporations and oil.

At the end of the day, I love the people of Monroe but BR is light years ahead of Monroe and is just a better place to live in my opinion.

How is this a question?

What kind of loser would chose Monroe over Baton Rouge?

The answer is always yes.
No matter where in the greater BR area you are the traffic will be bad.

I leave very early to avoid it in the morning and evening.

That’s what I’m afraid of. I have a cousin in Denham that works in BR. He spends hours on I-12 if he doesn’t time it right. I’m too old for that shite.

I commuted from Denham to Bluebonnet for 7 years. It was about 35-40 minutes on average at 8 and 5. It's much less painful if you go to work earlier or later. It really depends on where you are working in BR though.

not monroe or anywhere near it. i'm from there and my parents were there until about a year ago. if you want to remain stagnant, maybe regress a little in the primordial soup, yeah move to monroe. baton rouge isn't the cultural center of anything, but compared to monroe, it's off the scale.

I enjoy my 2 min to work in Monroe. 2 min to everything really. I live by the river though, if you live in WM or the parish it’s obviously longer. My advice OP is there’s zero reason to live in WM. If you want to be close to everything live in Garden District/N Monroe, else move out of town and live on a bigger piece of land. WM you live in subdivisions but aren’t close to anything and spend your time trying to get across the river.
