when i was 4 or 5 yrs old we lived in memphis. my mom, sister and i were at the zoo during one of the famous monkey island escapes. they were those smaller spider monkey types, a dozen or more living out on this island surrounded by a moat. a bunch were up in this old dead tree, got it rocking, and it crashed down across the moat. monkeys all looked at each other like aw shite and hauled arse across the tree and into the zoo. sister and i were stoked, mom was not - she put one of us under each arm and ran
ai overview - "Monkey Island at the Memphis Zoo was a popular, historic, and now-dismantled exhibit featuring a moat-protected habitat for primates, often remembered for frequent, dramatic monkey escapes in the 1970s, including one where they reached nearby Rhodes College"
