The amount of entitled replies to this thread is a little shocking to me. The cop was ultra professional and nice. Things that people wouldn't dare do in public for fear of getting their head knocked off they won't think twice of subjecting a cop to. Police don't get paid to be abused. They have just as much right to protect their personal dignity as anyone else. I couldn't be a cop today. I wouldn't last a day before I cracked a skull.

Wait, by signing the ticket you admit to guilt in that jurisdiction?
How do you fight a ticket in that jurisdiction?
It sounded to me like there were 2 versions of the ticket that were possible. He needed to know whether she wanted a bench trail or to just pay the fine before hand.
I’m guessing if she chose trial, she would’ve received a “typical” ticket, where you sign it to acknowledge receipt of the ticket.
The “pay the fine” ticket seems like you’re pleading guilty on the side of the highway, which is weird.

As the cop noted, being rude is not against the law, but when you are acting pissy and rude, you set the tone for the encounter and things that might have been overlooked on their own become catalysts for bigger problems.
Getting hit with a pen should not be that big of a deal, but her prior behavior set it up to be a big deal.
I wonder who long she spent in jail, and who got her out. The hubby didn't appear to be in much of a hurry to get her out.

I can’t imagine calling in felony assault of a police officer on radio then later having to explain that a fussy mom tossed a pen through the crack of a window.

if my kids asked me “is it good idea to throw something at a cop”. I would reply no.
Agreed. Could that have been avoided if he handed her the ticket through the slot in the window and didn't threaten her?
He could have easily handed it to her in the space given and said something like "ma'am don't make this harder than it needs to be, I don't want to arrest you or take your kids"
But he didn't. He purposely didn't give her the ticket and then threatened her after she began cooperating. Cops a power trip a-hole regardless.
No one should praise a cop whose first thought is to take your kids and escalate.
Neither reaction is justified but only 1 of those people is trained in de escalation.
The woman is in the wrong, no argument there. It would just be nice to see the cop not act like an a-hole in order to judge if the reaction of the woman would have been different.
The woman was wrong and the cop was excessive. Both can be right..

My god the bootlickers in this thread. Obvious speed trap in the middle of nowhere. I’m sure the cop was camping there all day so he could harass people.
He was itching to push someone around that day. Most cops tend to be losers who bullied people in high school. Once everyone else got successful jobs, they became cops so they could keep bullying people, this time behind a badge. Look no further that shitholes like Lake Providence, Port Barre, Forest Hill, and Fenton.

The dude was getting pissy when she offered her hand for the ticket because he expected the peasant needs to come to HIM, not the other way around. At every fricking stage he escalated the situation. She has accountability for joining him on the road, but he doesn’t get credit for “handling it well.”
Exactly. That guy was a douchebag from the drop. Dead in the middle of nowhere, could drive 110 down that road.
Charged with battery for a pen? Haha. Cop has zero pride.

Is there a law requiring you to roll your window all the way down when given a ticket? If there isn't then yeah the cop was a total piece of shite and has just as much blame if not more in this instance. If that's the case then there is no obstruction and a cop threatened to take her kids essentially unprovoked.

Normally I judge cops pretty harshly but to a point this cop was doing a pretty good job of handling the situation...then he had to go and tell the woman to "conduct yourself in a professional manner". What in the hell does that even mean? The public has no reason to "conduct themselves in a professional manner"....they are not the professional in this situation, the cop is. This one was acting like a professional until she did not roll the window down far enough to take the ticket then he escalated the situation. She was an a-hole from the get go, he was doing pretty well until he lost control of his emotion because she only extended her hand so far....just hand her the damned ticket and conduct yourself in a professional manner since you are the professional in this situation. They can't help themselves. If I were his boss I would embarrass the shite out of him in front of his co-workers over losing control over his emotions like he did. The public is comprised of people who can be assholes...the state has not reason to tolerate it from the employees of those assholes.

That cop sucked. If a gray haired cop pulled her over none of this happens. At no point was she a threat to anything except his ego.
Every grown man that interacts with the public knows bitches be crazy. You add sick kids and getting pulled over to the mix and it’s not surprising she was looking for something to take her frustrations out on. Wrong but not unexpected.
The cop kept escalating things to teach her a lesson. It’s not his job to teach lessons.

Both are at fault. The cop for power-tripping and the mom for getting a bitchy attitude and throwing the cop's pen at him.
And the mom is pretty hot. But she's crazier than a shithouse rat so IWHI only with alcohol.
A few days in jail might actually do her some good and curb her attitude

Weird it was 40 mph there on an open highway.
That's extremely common. My commute has a highway that goes from 55 to 40 in several areas. Obvious speed traps, doesn't take much just to slow down and not fall for them but some people just lack common sense.

I thought that he said it's 55 going in one direction and 40 in the other. Which is BS. Northport has a couple of places like that.

This one is on her, not the cop.
One interesting thing is to have to make the decision to pay or fight the ticket right there. That seems a rights violation, my response would be “I don’t know if I want to fight it until I consult an attorney”.

You’ve got it completely wrong. Most cops are the ones that GOT bullied in HS and had no girlfriends or got any. They became cops so they can push around everyone they encounter

Also, is it a common thing for demanding you declare that you will contest the ticket or simply pay the fine at the stop? That’s always the option but demanding you commit to one of the two and sign to it on the spot is new to me.
Never heard of being required to admit guilt and document such on the side of the road.
I'm not lowering my iq by watching and I don't know what state she's in. But where i'm at you are not admitting guilt if you sign and accept, you are just signing that you were there. Lotta folks get off on that and its counterproductive.
If you go to court then you have the opportunity to contest or admit guilt. You can also just pay the fine.
Finally I have heard but can't verify that if you don't admit to speeding, they might let you off with a warning. But if you fess up quickly then they just write you. Not sure how that works.

"I'll charge you with" "another charge"!

That video is surely being watched and laughed at by all of his comrades as a training video. I would be embarrassed for that arrest if I was that cop. Wonder how long he's been on the force? Husband was probably hoping for a long jail time and a break from Queen Karen.
