At least we'd know who did it if one of the whites wound up dead. ::rimshot

Those currents out there around the islands are no joke especially for the most experienced swimmers, factor in alcohol and well you’re asking for trouble. Absolutely tragic for the family. There are some questions to ask but some of the stories coming out right now is just ridiculous.

Yeah I have not seen that either and I am in most of the coastal Mississippi groups. My guess is he was fricked up, went for a swim, and drowned. The islands are a big party, especially on holidays. If he went for a walk it would be easy for his friends to lose track of him. I would have never left the island until we found my buddy though. The comment sections are insane with people being so sure that they killed their friend......in front of hundreds of boats.

Awfully sad. Very understandable how one could drown in a place like that if you’ve spent any time around the Gulf of America.
Fortunately, the body was found and the family will at least have that closure.
So many white people involved in the search from land, sea, and air. Yet, racist murder is the first reaction of more than a few.

Supposedly, his crew got to shore, called the mother, and then filed a missing persons report.
How good is the cell service on the island?

I've known several black guys over the years that had all white friends/"acted white". Great guys. The hostility they took from other blacks was downright disgusting!
A TON OF BLACK PEOPLE ARE RACIST ASF!

spotty at best. That's probably why his phone never left the boat. No point in risking it getting lost/wet when you can't do anything with it.

If any of them had a job they wouldn’t have time to sit around tweeting nonsense all day.

Right on, I almost bought the farm back in the late 80's out on Cat Island. We were in a sailboat, and you couldn't sail super close in with the keel.
Three of us jumped into the water to swim the last hundred yards, and we quickly found ourselves swept away from both the boat and the island by the current. Fortunately, one of us was a Boy Scout (not me) and powerblasted back to the boat to get a couple of floating cusions. That dude saved my life. I was bobbing like a cork, just about to give up. Fatigue is real!

A lot of the Facebook comments seem to be black parents talking about how they tell their children not to go places if there aren't other black people there.

And I honestly don't know if I think that's a good thing or a bad thing.

Maybe they have white people fatigue from the hangings, slavery, lynching, segregation, etc

guess it’s about how you deal with it. Posting irrational comments in online forums is no way to do it, am I right?

It’s no secret which percentage of the population is causing the most issues - this however is a terrible tragedy and prayers to that young man’s family.

Yeah I get service everywhere at Cat but for some reason do not at Horn.

I don't think the kids had anything to do with it but I can't imagine going back without my whole crew.Unless there was someone else that verified he could ride back with him you are going back in my boat when I leave.

This is why you teach your kids to not hang out with people that can’t swim

THE most understood thing to me, that we hear of often...a superb athlete that can't simply swim, or at least tread water

So much fatigue. That said-I give a small donation to the YMCA almost every year to pay for swimming lessons for this very reason. I do it in memory of my childhood hero, Joe Delaney. Black people -and Vietnamese people-need to learn to swim.

The racism has been as strong as anything I have ever seen with this. Just blatantly racist black people on FB talking about this.

They would rather believe in a boogeyman that’s been dead for 60+ years than look at actual modern day crime statistics

Exactly. It has been pretty obvious from the comments that black people know very little about water and they just assumed he was murdered by whites.

You can disappear drowning so fast and it has been proven time and again that it is silent. The person drowning very rarely gets to yell for help.
