Obituary of Bill Ferschoff, Jr.
July 24th, 2025

Bill Ferschoff, Jr. was born in Homer, LA, and passed away after a brief illness in Shreveport, LA.

Bill was the best brother a girl could ever hope for. He was bright, articulate, and had a razor-sharp sense of humor. Bill also had the biggest heart. His greatest passion was LSU Football. Oh how he loved the purple and gold!

Per Bill’s request, there will be no visitation or service.

I knew Bill a long time ago, but hadn't spoken with him in years. But I followed his posts here. They were always insightful and witty. Bill was a star QB for Bastrop High in the 70s, and later played defense for LSU for a season. His claim to fame was knocking down a Vince Ferragamo pass in a LSU-Nebraska 6-6 tie game in 76. RIP

Thyroid Cancer Survivor here!

Back in 2007, I was coaching baseball and became hoarse. I thought I was yelling too much at the kids, but it lingered on for weeks. I finally saw an ENT, and he scoped me and saw that my vocal cords were not working right.

After some ultrasounds and a Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA), it was determined I had Thyroid cancer. Surgery was 7 hours. The cancer was outside on my trachea and vocal cords. I lost the use of one vocal cord, but still have a voice. They removed the Thyroid, a number of lymph nodes, and as much cancer as they could.

After surgery, I underwent Radioiodine treatment. Took a radioactive pill and sequestered myself in the basement away from everyone for a week. Pretty easy and simple treatment compared to what most cancer fighters have to go through.

While all cancer sucks, Thyroid cancer is not bad of a one to deal with. It's slow-growing and can be monitored easily. Since 2007, I have had several more lymph nodes in my neck removed that were positive. The cancer never goes away. You keep beating back - like kudzu.

Like I said, cancer sucks, but Thyroid cancer is treatable and survivable.

"Dabnammit!"
"Hellfire!"

"Papaw, why do you read the obituary first every day?"
"I want to make sure I'm not in there."
For years, in the UK, Stella was known as "Wife Beater Beer"

quote:

Stella Artois is known as wife beater because the beer was associated with heavy drinking and domestic violence. This is because it had an alcohol percentage of 5.2% (which was higher than average) and was widely available in the United Kingdom at discounted prices, which increased the likelihood of alcohol abuse.

When ABI introduced it in the U.S., they worked hard to market Stella as a Premium Beer. Many bars would pour it in a special "Stella Goblet" to push the idea. The power of marketing...
Similar story - met a guy from Malaysia at NLU in the late 80s who thought he was going to attend college in Los Angeles, but ended up in Monroe, LA.

Before the internet, we only had those crappy catalogs to reference. As far as I know, he graduated NLU.
From the internet:
Offset is an American rapper, who's part of the successful hip hop group, Migos. As of November 2022, Offset's net worth is estimated to be $26 Million.

Worth $26 million and shooting dice in the bowling alley...
How about 6'7" Anthony Ranaudo?

Third in NCAA strikeouts in our 2009 CWS season.

39th overall pick in the 2010 draft by the Red Sox

quote:

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Orlando Arcia replaced Albies at second base. Arcia is the only backup infielder on the Braves’ 26-man roster. The Braves probably need to add another infielder to cover themselves.

Kramer Robertson, whom the Braves recently claimed off waivers, is on the 40-man roster and can play second base.

The Braves have a few options in Triple-A. None are on the 40-man roster.

Shortstop Braden Shewmake is the club’s No. 5 prospect on MLB Pipeline. Phil Gosselin, Pat Valaika and Ryan Goins are all veterans who could fill in for the time being. Joe Dunand is another name to watch.
quote:

Although I don't necessarily agree with the pinch hitting strategy thus far

I agree with this. I understand the whole LH/RH match-up philosophy - but to pitch hit with batters who are Freshmen or only have 1-2 AB's the entire season (when the game is still on the line) is baffling to me.

Flying in from ATL. Planning on watching all nine games from section 118. It's been a tradition for us every other year. Hopefully Coach can get us into one of these other tournaments in the off years.

Yeah, that was pointed out after I posted. Evidently I paid a $99 yearly subscription to get last years records!

If we could just bunt when we need to bunt - I would be very happy! I believe that we will be much better in all the basic fundamental skills moving forward.

We do have a very tough schedule. Our SOS will certainly be high...
You are correct sir!

There is a asterisk note at the top of the list that says:

*Teams are listed in order of projected finish. 2021 regional teams in bold.

Sorry for the confusion!

That explains some of their math skills.

But they didn't show the Aggies any love either:

SEC Record: 9-21
Overall: 29-27

I agree, we have the same core team as last year and have added some significant new talent. And it seems the core team is being better coached and has plugged some holes from last year.

No doubt that Ark, Vandy, State and Old Miss are going to be tough - but I don't see us going below .500 in conference play.

Good news is that we are about to find out!

D1 Baseball just released their 2022 SEC Preview and Projections.

The have LSU coming in 4th in the West - behind Arkansas, MS State and Old Miss.

They did project nine SEC teams to make the Regionals:
(Ranked in Order): Arkansas, Vandy, MS State, Old Miss, LSU, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina

One final note, they did predict that Dylan Crews would be the SEC Player of the Year.

Last box (this summer) cost me $1475! I broke a tooth and had to get a crown. They have always been hard - and when you find a box, it's usually old and they are even harder.

I'm over my nostalgia and will pass on them in the future.
Oh, if I just had some of the stuff that we blew-up with M80's when the firework stands would open. In our excitement, we would blow anything up - which would include GI Joes, Matt Mason Space stuff, and a bunch of other stuff that would be worth a fortune on eBay these days.
