Why not just have a Committee of Public Safety? Maybe get a guy like Max Robespierre to head it up.
Those in power walking down this road would be best served to open a history book and see what happened to Mr. Robespierre IMHO

Haven’t some of these council members used public funds to hire personal, private security for themselves since this started?
Yes. They should be required to reimburse the public coffers. Public funds are not there for your personal use and is not your discretionary personal piggy bank.
I will have to wait and see if they vote these same clowns back in to know if I feel sorry for Joe Average in MN.

Lisa Bender, the City Council president, famously said in an interview that when you call for police to report a burglary at your home it “comes from a place of privilege.”
I had always thought it came from a place of tax payers money to provide for the safety of the public.
There has to be a state constitutional obligation that dismantling the police department violates.

The MPD should help the public visualize what this would look like with a 14 day strike
And really, why not do so? 2-3 weeks before the vote that’s exactly what police should do.

I remember the argument these types use to use against using guns to defend your home was “You can just call the cops”. Now now what are they going to say?

It’s one thing to disband and reform which many need to do but to disband and not have law enforcement is dumb. At this point I’m sure every major police force in the urban areas needs restructuring.
I’d say 25% of an officer’s daily job should be some form of training whether is learning proper restraint, hostage situations, even internal affairs, etc. an officer of the law should never become complacent with their job. Mental health screenings will be more frequently needed. urban areas need to recruit more minorities to represent their areas of the city. It’ll require more funding but if the resources are allocated properly it can be done.
This is more then just a job but a calling and an honor to protect and serve. Somewhere along the way this has been forgotten

You should also consider linking the article about various City Council members requesting security details due to "death threats" from "white nationalists".

I'm pretty sure another excuse will be utilized.

One day they’ll realize that blacks call police for burglary also

Man what the fuk is going on in Minneapolis???

They’ll probably just end up doing what Camden, NJ did. Create a whole “new” department that they promise will be different then the last. In reality it’ll just be the same cops with slightly different uniforms, names, and motto.

This is the most ridiculous shite I've ever seen. I've lost all faith in humanity.
So what happens when Ilhan Omar's house is robbed? Just going to be okay with the "unplanned donation"? What if they beat her (it's a she, right?)?

Progressives have no ideology except for "revolution." They use black folks, gay folks as pawns.
This saying was popular in the 60s among SDS radicals.
"The issue is never the issue, the issue is the revolution."

Defunding the police is the most anti black thing someone can do. EMS agencies can’t go in to so many different calls without police. I’ve witnessed 100s of calls for blacks alone where police were doing first aid or cpr prior to our arrival, and many of those saved. The black community constantly calls for police aid.

Where do you people come up with this stuff? What job entails 25% of the time being spent not doing the job? You would need to triple the number of police officers to make up for that much time doing something other than police functions.

Of course they do and minorities should be pro 2nd amendment for this reason

Right around the time the Police Unions came to power.
Which is the primary reason for lack of accountability for the shitty cops out there.

18.3% of homes are on the market in Minneapolis right now. That’s how bad it is.
Just for reference, what's the baseline?

Most big police departments do all that. 25% is a bit ridiculous and a number you pulled out of your arse though.
