Are these people certifiably insane?

The Minneapolis City Council on Friday voted 12-0 in favor of changing the city’s charter to allow a vote in November that allows city residents to decide whether the city’s entire police department should be dismantled.
quote:
High-profile Democrats, like Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., has compared the police department to a cancer that needs to be removed to keep from spreading. Lisa Bender, the City Council president, famously said in an interview that when you call for police to report a burglary at your home it “comes from a place of privilege.”
quote:
Fox 9 reported that the proposal would remove minimum officer requirements in the city and replaces the department with the Department of Community Safety and Violence Prevention. It would be led by a non-law enforcement figure, the Associated Press reported. Reports said that there has been an increase in gun violence in some sections of the city in recent weeks.
quote:
Mayor Jacob Frey, the city’s liberal leader, has spoken out against dissolving the city’s police department. He even faced boos at an earlier protest over his position and chants urging him to “Go home, Jacob.”
quote:
Brian Peters, the executive director of the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association, “Their proposal, in the midst of a drastic increase of violent gun crimes, is an unserious and disingenuous attempt to satisfy small political factions without providing real resources to address and prevent crime from happening in the city.”

there's a lot of evil in this world.

Please let this happen

This is the progressive liberal mind at work boys and girls. Remember statements like this come November.

Let them do it. I'll enjoy watching it from afar.
What I suspect is that they will just create another agency not named the "police" but they'll still be walking around carrying guns and making arrests.
In essence they'll have just renamed the police department

After what I've seen here in Louisville with LMPD, I have no problem saying some police departments need serious reform.
That said, it's batshit crazy to eliminate the department all together. There's so many other things that can be done to address the issues at hand.

The MPD should help the public visualize what this would look like with a 14 day strike.

Please blow up the bridges along the MN-WI border first

They are going to vote to abolish the ENTIRE police force? Yeah, that won’t pass. But it does give the committee the illusion of doing something.

This city is afraid of me. I've seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"... and I'll look down, and whisper "No."

Haven’t some of these council members used public funds to hire personal, private security for themselves since this started?

Someone should go burglarize her house and watch the hypocrisy unfold.

The people that show up to boo and act like idiots are the fringe. If they put an unarmed patrol in place, Minneapolis will be Mogadishu inside a month.

this story is so last week.
I think this has to make the ballot in November before its done. Read that there are some bureaucratic obstacles to overcome before that happens.
frick 'em. They (the voters) get what they deserve.

I can't see the people voting to abolish the police. If they do, whatever happens is on them.
Ask and ye shall receive, good or bad.

18.3% of homes are on the market in Minneapolis right now. That’s how bad it is.
