The same boomers who post all day about “deep state actors” will rush to defend their local and state government police no matter the situation. It’s frustrating but I think that hypocrisy is slowly melting away with corona enforcement and how the FBI has acted in certain aspects since 2016.

My nephew is a BRPD officer. Pretty cool guy. What this cop in Minnesota did was wrong. However being a cop you have to learn to restrain yourself during a situation. My nephew was also a Walker cop and responded to a case like 5 years ago when a dude was cutting his wife open to get the baby out. Just think about walking in to something like that and thinking what your next move would be...... he did the right thing and restrained the person without doing any harm to him. Though he has told me he had some different thoughts at that time.

It frustrates me how people want to make out conservatism to be their own little perfect version of libertarianism.

Conservatism is a political and social philosophy promoting traditional social institutions in the context of culture and civilization. The central tenets of conservatism include tradition, organic society, hierarchy, authority, and property rights.

conservative politics does not (and has never) meant small government

Small government conservatism, at least in the US, became immensely popular under Reagan. Posting a definition of conservatism isn't accurate because the dynamic is very different and unique in the US. Compared to the conservatism of the Tories, it's a totally different world. In that sense you're right, there's nothing small government about British conservatism.

This is one of the rare instances where I’m 100% against the cop.

Most of these cases where an unarmed citizen is killed are ambiguous where there is a reasonable defense for the cop.

In this case there is absolutely no reason to defend the cop. There is no reason why he had to put his knee into his neck like that while he’s handcuffed and has multiple other officers around. This wasn’t a heat of the moment decision. This wasn’t a guy in fear for his life. This was just a cop being a jackass.

That cop needs to be arrested and charged. This isn’t even about race. It’s about a bully cop who killed someone.

Maybe my fellow conservatives will remember that limited government and non-authoritarianism means being very critical of all taking of lives by the state, even if the person who's life was taken was "resisting." The "thin blue line" and conservative values are very close to antithetical opinions, at least in how they are expressed/held in current day America.
Needs to be repeated

That's what I felt. It sure looked like he wanted to prove to them that he was not going to change anything he was doing the more they pleaded and complained. He either wanted to kill the man or wanted to show them who was boss even if it killed the man. Now the guy is dead, the cops have all lost their jobs and the killer cop may end up in prison. His life will never be the same regardless.

Kstp

Video of initial contact. Guy was handcuffed long before the officer kneeled in his neck. Handcuffed across the street and walked without resisting to the place he died.

watch the video

Oh shite I’m almost at a loss for words. The situation would have been fine if the a-hole cop would have got off the guys neck after the cuffs were put on. As some have already said it’s almost as if he was proving to the crowd he was in charge and he was going to show them.
To me it looks like he at first didn’t have much pressure on the neck but when the crowd started yelling at him he put direct pressure with his knee to taunt them. I will need to watch again because I could be wrong but that was my initial thought after watching that crap.
I have worked with police and have many friends that are in law enforcement, I will back them because I personally know how hard that job has become and the dangers they face each shift. What I won’t do is back a bad cop or make excuses, this was total bullshite and the guy on the neck should face the music. The other officers also had a responsibility to step in and protect that guy so frick them too. They just have given all police another really bad black eye, and of course the black lies matters will jump on this like a fat kid on a cookie.

As most have said after watching the video I don’t see anything that leads to justify the length of time the cop was applying pressure to the guys neck.

The video where he was handcuffed and walked across the street shows that he was in handcuffs already.

If you gain control (they obviously did), put him in the back of the car, hog tie him or whatever it takes to do that but then move on. They had plenty of manpower to do that.

I have no idea what the endgame was just sitting on the guys neck indefinitely. Especially after the guy is unconscious how can he resist at that point.

Policing is a tough job and I generally give the benefit of the doubt to police. But this was very poor policing and the cops actions directly resulted in the death of that man.

we don't know because it didn't happen

lay off the hypothetical and elementary what-about-isms and focus on what actually happened

everybody should be in opposition to this. no pun intended, but this is as black and white as it gets in terms of "controversy"
