Ma thyroids!!!!

But seriously it's the need these days to have 2 working parents to make ends meet. Spouse at home cooking healthy meals vs both spouses coming home exhausted and not having the energy/will to stand at a stove for another hour making a healthy meal. Add in a few kids and their extra curricular's and there aren't a ton of options. Meal prep is probably the best but it's not pushed that often.

very true

but it has been proven time and time again that diet has way more to do with weight than how active you are

exercise = health/body composition

diet = weight/fat %

Oh I agree. I just think jobs that involve sitting in front of a computer are just so soul sucking that it leads to poor choices in diet.

We quit cooking, and the microwave and fast food became our diet. In short, processed food is our diet and it’s killing us. It’s even distorted our palate so that we actually crave the garbage.

Have you people really devolved into bitching about the younger generations of other countries?

I find it fascinating how the fitness/health industry is booming and growing every year, but we continually keep getting fatter

I would think a lot of it has to do with overweight people buying expensive workout gear and gym memberships to "force" themselves to "get serious" about losing weight, only to flake on their New Year resolutions and succumb to their old habits of eating junk food and sitting on their asses. Also they are prone to getting on some shitty expensive diet plan. Those nice new earbuds and armband may make it incrementally more convenient/comfortable to workout, but there is still no getting around the ultimate reality that the cardio they need to do is going to be pretty painful, and their diet is going to require a lot more self control.

Also I didn't read the article so I'm not sure if they talk about Americans, but my impression is that Brits and Europeans overall are trending in an unhealthier direction in terms of fast food, etc., while I think the trend is the opposite for Americans, given the rise of Chipotle, Zoe's, etc., in lieu of McDonald's, etc.

People need a better sense of self responsibility. The greatest gift my grandfather and dad have ever given me was this. Taking responsibility for the negative aspects of your life and taking it upon yourself to correct it. I've found even when something isn't necessarily "your fault", taking on the challenge and fixing it like it is often makes me feel a lot better than sitting around complaining about it while nothing gets done.

Processed carbs and sugar...that’s the problem. Our food system is shite - the population is over fed and under nourished.

I understand the feeling that all they do is play video games/stare at their phones and eat quick chain food, but I'm am actually a bit surprised by this as they seem pretty vain. The ones I see in the corporate world who aren't grungy and working at Trader Joe's are pretty well-dressed and in good shape.

that's a pretty small % of millennials, especially if you're not including call center employees other low level "corporate" workers.

That's because fast food can't have fresh, unprocessed food and keep their margins.

My wife and I meal prep on Sunday for breakfast and lunch through the week then I cook dinner every night. We both work exhausting jobs, but I like to cook so I do it when I get home. Sometimes it's 30 minutes like fish and veggies, other times it can be a few hours for gumbo or something. Although that's only like an hour of active cooking and a lot of simmering.
