Doesn't surprise me
Combining the distractions nowadays means less moving around, plus it's the instant gratification generation so more of them fall for the BS shortcut diet fads instead of the age old calories in vs calories out.

Mass shootings is dumb but if you think sitting on your arse playing video games for hours on end is good for you and doesn't lead to weight gain when done routinely, you're mistaken.

I really like how in the UK, it is still called "fat." Here in the US, the word has a stigma attached to it, and other nicer words and phrases have been adopted to spare feelings.
But yes, obesity is an epidemic. Pixar had it right with the ending of Wall-E, people too fat to walk on their own and relying on levitating scooters to get around:
