Millennial's or Gen Y

I was born in 1960 to parents who were born in 1916 and 1918.
I am the youngest of 8 children and only 4 surviving.
My parents were born and raised in the south POOR, UNEDUCATED and HARD WORKING.
As a child I remember listening the OLD folks getting together for family functions and reminiscing of their younger years. Depressions, Diseases, Wars, working dawn til dusk and never complaining during those conversations.
Many times with heartfelt laughter.
As the years have passed I have learned to value life, family and my family's history.
I have never had to sacrifice nor feel the sorrows of those before me.
I have lost brothers and parents but I have been very blessed in my own life with marriage,career and two sons that have made me and my wife's life complete on this earth.
We are experiencing a time that no one could be prepared for.
Listen to your elders when given the opportunity and soak it in. In the years to come you to will realize the VALUE in their stories and hopefully pass them down to your own children.
I haven't had to make the sacrifices The Greatest Generation 1910-1924 or The Silent Generation 1925-1945 had to and we all owe them appreciation and gratitude.
Take a minute or two and think about how truly fortunate
we all are even during these times.
Have a GROOVY weekend TD'ers.

Ok, boomer. Good advice actually.
I’m about 20 years younger than you but can relate through the stories my grandfather told me as a child. As a World War 2 vet, he did look back fondly on the war in many ways, but he definitely did not feel the same about the depression. He was the youngest In his family and his father passed when he was young. It is hard to relate anything in my experience to the poverty he described.

I still remember and truly cherish listening to the tales of my grandparents (born in 26, 28, and 36. Never got to meet my other grandfather) and hearing the tales of them growing up. It was awesome.
Unfortunately none of them are with me any longer so I soak in talking to my parents (born in 57 and 59) about what it was like growing up for them and what stories their parents told.

Millennials already had to sacrifice through the Great Recession. I see you failed to mention that, oh that's right you already had a cush job and wasn't coming straight out of college with a 12% unemployment rate.

Thanks baw. It's crazy that 2020 is the first time boomers had to face some adversity, but want to "educate" us millennials on how to persevere.

Somewhere along the way, Boomers became upset because they weren't given the same deference that they had to give previous generations due to the hardships those generations actually lived through. So, they decided that age was a close enough proxy. Nothing like an upper middle class middle aged (empty nest) housewife who had a housekeeper four days a week starting a sentence with "I've been on this planet for X# of years, and..."

My grandpa (born in 1927 johnstown pa) told me stories of straightening out old nails on the train tracks for use or sale, the 1936 flood that took their home, wars (ww2, korea, vietnam he actually lied to enter the navy at 17 years old to ease the burden on his father)

For me I grew up listening to tales of my great-grandmother who was born in 1897. She died in 1985. She remembered the Titanic sinking, both world wars, the Spanish Flu pandemic which killed my great grandfather on the other side of the family, the Great Depression, etc. She remembered not having the right to vote, and told me about as a woman getting the right and the first time she voted. She lived through some pretty cool stuff.
