Kind of a package deal, man. Someone could work 15 hours 7 days a week but make $250k so it wouldn't be worse than this guy in the OP.

Yeah, but they are working 320+ hours a month for like 50k.

only matters if we know what that is worth in china...maybe the poor only make $100 a month

Middle of the road, but

His monthly wage is less than half of a one bedroom apartment. That's ridiculous.

I worked 2 months 6 days a week from 8AM to at least 2AM. It was right after a broken engagement so it was actually everything I needed. And I was per diem so I billed 2 days in 1 every day. I made a frick ton those 2 months.

I bet, we got fatigue rule so we can't go that much. 16 is our single day and 72 for the week without a lot of management paperwork. I have had to be driven home from the plant before though because they thought I was too fatigued. Luckily I have never experienced going to a quiet room and sleeping in a cot, it was always talked about, but never saw it happen.

Li said that initially he felt he couldn’t be too be picky: he had majored in English, not in one of the sought-after science or technology fields, and he had attended a low-ranked university. Many of his friends are unemployed.

This is his problem. If he is sick and tired of the hours he is expected to work, start searching for another job or find some other way to get ahead in the chosen profession (maybe go back to school and get another degree). I don't feel bad for people that complain about hours, pay, etc. If it's so bad, do something about it.

I was previously in a career where I regularly worked 60-70 hour work weeks for less than $40k / year. I got tired of it after years, went back to school and got a better job.

My case was much different, just reviewing and analyzing title opinions for a big due diligence acquisition. Booze popped out around 6 or 7 each night.

Sure. But there are plenty of people who work atrocious hours. Granted they will eventually get better hours and pay.

And that's why you can't really compare here.

This guy is complaining because that's pretty much his life. There's no "grind for a few years and then the payoff will come."

You are changing the original argument. Your first statement was that you don't believe that people have it worse than 6 12s a week.

And this isn't limited to medicine. I know a few in law firms doing 70+ a week.

I took real classes like turning a wrench. Ever heard of it?

You had to take a class on turning a wrench? Was that before or after turning a screwdriver and hammering a nail? Using measuring tape must have been an AP course.

Fair enough. My itent was the total package including the compensation, but I did not word it that way.

Factoring in working at home, my wife does close to 70. Just over 5 days and a little Sunday evening/night.

It's China dude. I know most of you don't have a world view outside of Livingston Parish and plant life, but that's not how it works in pretty much the rest of the world.

Honestly I would probably rather work 40 hours for like $70k a week than that 996 for $100k.

I worked 6-9 7 days a week for six months. With a similar commute.

But I did it for a little more than what he makes every month... Every day.

This.

To a certain extent, my time is more valuable to me than money. If you have no free time you won't get to enjoy that extra money anyway.

Never lived in LP and have a world view.

What sounds better for Li to do? Continue searching for a new, better job? Here is an idea, go teach English somewhere less expensive than the city he is currently working in. Or bitch about it to some journalist with a chance of his boss seeing the article and firing him?
