It's the whataboutism they whine about all the time.

They were idiots, but I'll never laugh at someone losing their life like this.

Lions are just misunderstood house cats.

I’m gonna bike through lion territory and prove that lions won’t hurt me

Driver was probably texting and did it on accident, but when they realized who they were, they quickly and conveniently switched it to make it look like a terror plot.

God, I feel for the parents and siblings. I'm sure they begged and pleaded with them not to do this.

As for the couple...it's hard drumming up sympathy.

sell everything you own

camp on the side of roads

basically only expenses are food and lodging on occasion to shower and whatnot, which can be very cheap

its not like they are staying in nice hotels and eating at restaurants every day

I didn't see much narcissism from going through their website. They'd update a blog every few days and post some photos, but nothing like those YouTube people who were killed trying to do "extreme" stuff at a waterfall.

Kind of hard to bash them for going on a trip like that.

its sad that these people died, but come on man.

You travel through an area where the majority of the people dislike westerners and western ideals, with a very active subset of that group that actually wanting to follow through on the dislike for westerners, to the point of killing them. Why would you go there? Why would anyone with a logically thinking mind go there?

Its like the kid who went to North Korea and then decided to deface North Korean propaganda, he ends up arrested, then mistreated, and ultimately dead. #1 why go to North Korea? #2 once you have made the decision to go to North Korea, why would you behave in a manner to bring negative attention to yourself? A place where the government has an open hatred of America and western ideals.

Its also like the Couple who took their family to Pakistan. They were arrested and detained for 5 fricking years. What the frick did you think was going to happen when you went to Pakistan? There are actually hundreds of other countries you could visit in this world, but you just have to go to one with a population that mostly hates you for being from the west and the beliefs you have.

No offense, Millennials. But it’s doing stupid shite like quitting your job to bike around the world then getting killed by terrorists in freaking Afghanistan that make the rest of us look at y’all and just shake our head.

It wasn't in Afghanistan.

It was in Tajikistan.

It was the first attack on Westerners ever in the country.

It is also not "ISIS territory" as the headline claims.

They were on a route that many bikepackers ride. It is a common route and no attacks had ever occurred on the route.
