My fondest memory of Middleton is never going there voluntarily. One class I had required a singular visit. Place was an absolute dump. And that was 35+ years ago. Good riddance.

I was always more fond of the Chemistry Library. Place was always dead empty.

I almost lived there my freshman year (had an annoying dormmate) and during finals week.My major had a lot of projects and that seemed like the place to meet up at.

LSU is spending $154 million to complete the building. Funding was provided through private and state funds. The LSU Foundation is currently pursuing a $35 million fundraising goal to help with funding.

I just have this feeling that a fraction of $154 million would've solved the problem.

This room is incredible.

Also, to be fair to LSU...

The architect is the one choosing those sprites in the 3D renderings, not the owner.

ETA: it's possible that LSU student architects were involved with some design, but it's unlikely that any LSU admin told someone to dial the diversity up to 11 and to include a Saudi oil baron and a darker fella in a wife beater.

If they really remove it and bring back the open cross shaped area this is great news.

I’m old enough to remember the Middleton Library Finals thread

You could definitely see TD growing older on average as that thread was smaller and smaller every year

I worked there for a week and got fired. During the day I would help this fellow on the spectrum deliver mail, and then work the check out counter.

During rush I was one of the guys who took potential pledges from house to house. I told the woman that was in charge of scheduling a week ahead of time. She put me on the schedule bc you have to have 2 people checking out books on Saturday evening/night before school starts. When I came back my time card was gone. Ended up at the Coastal Studies department. It was pretty awesome as a college job.

So with all the really neat original architecture and design of the rest of the buildings on campus, they’re going to to build this monstrosity??!! I really hate people who don’t appreciate the past and think they’re the first ones to ever live this life. They ruin everything that was cool from the past and made history special.

lol no

An architecture selection committee chose the firm designing it. They met with the decision makers and had their first representations soundly rejected.

Students and others were allowed to publicly voice their displeasure with anything publicly released but the were in no way shape or form, part of the design process.

Agreed! This doesn’t fit the architecture of the campus at all. It’s ugly as hell

Should have hired engineers to draw up the plans. Architects can't let go of their ego and have to come up with their own special twist.

Just make it look something like this:
