I'm surprised how fast data science has fallen off. It was one of the most in demand tech jobs around covid but now it's at risk of being replaced with ai agents

No one wants to talk to a machine when their order shipped wrong or the material is defective. They want to talk to a live human and get things straightened out. AI may be sufficient for checking inventory and quoting prices (maybe), but I don’t see humans being completely out of the picture.

Welding and truck nuts not on the list

Unless I missed it accountants are not on the list and I would think they would rank high, but then you can't cook the books.

I think the most notable shift will be when the robots start driving all of the trucks. That's a workforce of 3.5M right now. Just a matter of time.

I read a book decades ago, The Earth is Flat or some such. The author is a douchebag but the book discussed that technology would replace many fields. This was way before AI was on the scene.
Are you thinking of The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century by Thomas Friedman?

It can't be real because there are not enough government jobs listed.
- administrative assistant
- HR
- clerk
- secretary
- urban planners
- anyone who pushes paper
Just to name a few.

Switchboard operators? what year is this from?
Posted on 7/31/25 at 2:15 pm to RLDSC FAN
It seems like all those are lady jobs

They're out over their skis if they think AI can replace a well-versed historian. The whole purpose of being a historian is collecting archival data and interview data that isn't accessible by the general public or AI.

The Indians are the canary in the mineshaft.
A lot of those outsourced jobs are routine, simple, and relatively cheap.
Once you see those call centers and Sirius XM sales jobs start to disappear, the wave will hit here.
Nobody's hiring Indians (except other Indians) to design bridges, but they are surely handling your warranty claims.
For now...

A lot of those are just wishes on their part that we humans will derail by angrily pressing the button or demanding to speak to a representative 99% of the time.
Data science and web development... To a large extent yes, but we'll still need smart people to ask for the right things and test that the output isn't BS.

My advice would be to start farming and become self sufficient
