911 policy is always send responders and send them running code in this instance. Everywhere. All across the nation.

This is the only reason, though. Since responders have been sued for door damage so much by Joe Public for helping them open their foolishly locked doors, they don't do that any more.

Really stupid 911 operator. But that's what you get for what they are paid.

The dispatcher offered to send a tow, which is a logical choice for this sort of thing. It's what I'd do. Call them up and explain the urgency of the situation.

Or find a nearby man and ask him to break the window.

I carry one in my car in case something awful happens and I can't escape. It will also cut your seatbelt if you're trapped. Amazon has them in a 2 pack for under $10.

What way? Having an opinion?

I'm not ignoring that part. I understand it was probably a scary scenario. She most likely just needed to calm down and find the right tool. And she did.

I don't believe that any motivated parent would have let their child die in a car in this way. She would have got the child out, even without the window breaker.

NOWHERE is it mentioned that the parent actually told them the child was locked in the car.

Also, don't underestimate the potential need for medical assistance for the baby. The dispatcher absolutely should have sent help.

Would you bet your child's life on that? Like you said, you're being overly harsh. Just a typical you thing.

You're not being harsh. You're being a fricking idiot.

A child was in danger. It doesn't matter if she took care of it herself. It doesn't matter that it might have been resolved before EMS/Fire Department.

None of that matters. What matters is a child was in potential danger and the 911 dispatcher basically said frick off we don't have time for you.

That is incredibly fricked

This exact same scenario happened to my Mom and my SIL when my niece was a baby. The thought of calling 911 never occurred to them. They broke the window and got her out. I don't know. Maybe I'm being too harsh, but I just have a problem with people being too reliant on others.

If your house catches on fire, will you be self-reliant and put it out with a garden hose?

Wait... I didn’t realize I was responding to somebody being a contrarian for sport. Carry on.

I already said that the dispatcher handled it poorly.

Thanks - I will have to get one. I have a pocket knife that an NYPD guy gave me that has the pointed end for breaking glass and the other end is a seatbelt cutter. Haven't tried it but he said it would cut through a seatbelt like a hot knife through butter.

I do keep a tourniquet in my truck. Another thing I would recommend everyone keep. Also pretty cheap.

What you quoted doesn't explain that the grandmother actually said a kid was in the car. That's a bit confusing.

But yes, find something and break the glass. It's not rocket science.

You are correct. This call should automatically be coded to police and medical.

And as I have already stated:
