Drug cartels have used the violent tactic to erase evidence in the past and police believe gang members falsely assumed the three victims were from a rival gang.

According to witnesses, heavily armed men posing as police officers accosted the students after their car broke down. They were never seen again, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Pictures of three missing film students are displayed during a press conference in which Jalisco State's Attorney General Raul Sanchez Jimenez confirmed they were found dead, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico on April 23, 2018. - Three Mexican film students who went missing five weeks ago were kidnapped, tortured, killed and likely dissolved in acid, investigators said Monday, a gruesome end to a case that triggered vehement protests. DNA tests will be carried out to determine whether the students' bodies were dissolved in the acid, chief investigator Lizette Torres said. Ulises Ruiz/AFP/Getty Images
Police believe that Gastelum, Diaz and Avalos were taken to a property outside Guadalajara for interrogation, during which at least one of them was being beaten to death. The fact that the other two had witnessed a homicide could have convinced the kidnappers to execute them.

Hate to say it b/c I'm rooting for this guy, but his life will be cut short. Probably even before the election takes place.

This is why the US as it is today will never defeat the Cartel's, criminal drug gangs, radical Islam and any other group willing to be viciously violent.
We have to many morals to ever really be a leader on the world stage again as it related to "fighting bad guys".
Yea, we got bad arse spc ops, but those are precision weapons, and largely out of sight out of mind.

Did the definition of dissolve change?

Well, using context clues from his statement, I’m gonna say that he was referring to the Mexican presidential candidate

This guy was worse:
quote:
Adolfo de Jesús Constanzo (November 1, 1962 – May 6, 1989) was a Cuban-American serial killer, drug dealer, and cult leader of an infamous gang dubbed by the media as The Narcosatanists (Spanish: "Los Narcosatánicos"). His cult members nicknamed him The Godfather ("El Padrino"). He was reportedly responsible for the murder of Mark Kilroy, an American student killed in Matamoros in 1989, along with several other cult killings.
Constanzo began to believe that his magic spells, many of which he took from Palo Mayombe, were responsible for the success of the cartels and demanded to become a full business partner with one of the most powerful families he knew, the Calzadas. When his demand was rejected, seven family members disappeared. Their bodies turned up later with fingers, toes, ears, brains, and even (in one case) the spine missing. Constanzo soon made friends with a new cartel, the Hernandez brothers. He also took up with a young woman named Sara Aldrete, who became the high priestess of the cult.
In 1988, Constanzo moved to Rancho Santa Elena, a house in the desert. It is there where he carried out more sadistic ritual murders, sometimes of strangers and other times of rival drug dealers. He also used the ranch to store huge shipments of cocaine and marijuana.
On March 13, 1989, Constanzo's henchmen abducted a pre-med student, Mark Kilroy, from outside a Mexican bar and took him back to the ranch. Kilroy was a U.S. citizen who had been in Mexico on spring break. When Kilroy was brought to the ranch, Constanzo murdered him. Under pressure from Texan politicians, Mexican police initially picked up four of Constanzo's followers, including two of the Hernandez brothers. Police quickly discovered the cult and that Constanzo had been responsible for Kilroy's death; he sought a "good"/superior brain for one of his ritual spells. Officers raided the ranch and discovered Constanzo's cauldron, which contained various items such as a dead black cat and a human brain. Fifteen mutilated corpses were dug up at the ranch, one of them Kilroy's. Officials said Kilroy was killed by Constanzo with a machete chop to the back of the neck when Kilroy tried to escape about 12 hours after being taken to the ranch.

I'm curious if these "film students" were trying to document drug cartel activity and got disposed of..

How long do you think it would take for the U.S. to make a clean sweep of all the drug cartels in Mexico? If they really wanted to get rid of all of them, how long would it take?
Posted on 4/24/18 at 12:44 pm to MontyFranklyn
Probably not long, But why? Just guard the border and don't let anyone cross... If they want to live corrupt and uncivilized then let them.

Longer than you think.
The leaders have residences all over the world and are very smart about avoiding law enforcement. They have extensive tunnel systems and live in remote areas for short periods of time.
What we need to do, is figure out how to lop the heads off of all but one cartel and combine them all and make a deal with them to keep violence out of the US.
Never a good idea to create a void in a lawless land. Just unite bad guys under the most agreeable cartel leader.
