Chicagondid this. Now the insane homeless wander the streets being dregs to society, committing crimes and lowering standards of decency.

As if they don't do the same thing in every other city in America. . .

People blame the politicians but ignore that our population is dumb as shite and demands exactly zero in the way of accountability from its government.

Hopefully, this is just a power play by DHH

That's what it sounds like.

The way that louisiana treats it's mentally ill population should be considered criminal. I have seen the decay over 20+ years of working in the mental health field. Each parish used to have a well staffed mental health clinic which truly helped the population. It has gradually been strangled to the point that it is nothing more than a facade.

Good. No need to waste hundreds of millions of dollars on the least valuable members of society.

Yeah great plan.....cut off treatment to the type of people that could potentially hurt the general public if their mental illness isn't treated.

Its not just about crazy people, a lot of people suffer from other mental barriers thats out of their control and it affects them in daily life without treatment. I don't think this wouldn't be smart to do

Oh I agree. It's horrible that mental illness isn't treated as seriously as it should be. It's no different than someone having cancer or diabetes.

No one would ever want to deny a child with cancer treatment would they? But if another child happens to suffer from mental illness....well guess that is just their own fault the way some people act.

I don't see anything here about cutting staff or waste? Why not start there instead of fear-mongering.

Agreed. One of the few roles of govt. is protection of its citizens. Whether it's jails or mental health, it's far preferable to movie credits and roofs for horse stables.

Let's cut off treatment to cray cray people. What could possibly go wrong?

Liberals have been normalizing mental issues for years now. If it's normal, why do we need mental health services?

Any idea what the cost of the amount of crime they would commit without these services would cost? Many would be institutionalized, through no real fault of their own, without these services.

Some things would be as little as petty theft for food and breaking and entering for warm places to sleep in the winter, some things would be as serious as homicide for something that would be taken care of with a simple pill and routine follow up.

I hope there is a decent backing from a charitable organization for some of these services if this goes through.

Chairtiable organizations are unable to truly have an impact on the issue. A charitable organization can not hold an individual against their will. And many will refuse any and all treatment, sinking into the underworld.

I was at CVS the other day. A crazy man barged in screaming and the CVS cadhier got in his face screaming that he had to leave. She said this man had stolen at least $50 dollars worth of stuff over the past few months. I asked her why she didn't call the the cops. She said she hand, numerous times. She said the man had been arrested at least 8 times. But he always ended back on the ducking street.
