You don’t think that chemical imbalances in your brain are at least as serious as the flu that’s keeping you in bed?

At my job we call them Rectal Opthalmology days. They are for those days you just can't see your arse getting out of bed.

Just kidding, we don't have either.

I'm pretty sure most people on here have at some point used a "sick" day when they just weren't in the mood to go to work. That's basically a mental health day. Because if you went in, you'd probably be miserable and unproductive.

Ummm, what if something happened in their life highly traumatic that there’s no way they could function at work? I can think of reasons for this. If your life is all sunshine and daisies, then you can’t understand, but it seems like this should be on the table. Hell I take an hour off every 2 weeks for therapy.

It's for people who can't handle the stress of their job.

It’s code for when you are fed up with work, or hungover, and want to stay home. But don’t do it too much or you will end up like the kid appealing his grade in English.

Is this included in “sick days?” We have PTO, use it if you want vacation or a day off.

My boss told me to take tomorrow afternoon off and play golf. It's called a work life balance, sorry your job sucks

At some point we all have to acknowledge that the brain is a physical organ just like any other in our body and needs care. It can be taxed to injury just as easily as any muscle, bone or other support structure. Too many people think "mental" is some supernatural extension of the body. It's just the brain doing what it does.

I’ve definitely needed to use them before in software project management. I didn’t but I absolutely will in the future and I would have been more productive

I'm an RN and have called in sick twice in 20 years. Have lost a ton of sick days at several jobs because of this while co-workers call in twice a month. Nursing is starting to wear on me, I plan on taking a few mh days here and there at this job. 58 y/o and not losing anymore time.

I’ve had a great job and had to take a day off for mental health, because life outside of it was chaotic and shite. Chaos can come into your life even if you yourself are perfectly orderly. There are other factors besides you being fricked up and you having a shitty job.

The world as a whole wants to destroy you, and sometimes it can despite you being competent and well adjusted. The chaos of the world happens around you, and it break you despite any training you’ve had.
