Personal time. Nothing wrong with taking off a few days for personal business.

Now I've sent people home because their attitude sucked and I felt maybe a few days away would help but I did hold that against them.

Mental Health days off

I usually hear of these for people who either:
A. had a loved one die
B. had some kind of breakdown at work
C. were victim to a very traumatic event like witnessing a shooting, being raped, home invasion while they're home, etc.

Sorry your labor is of such low value that you don’t get mental health day benefits.

I’m thoroughly shocked you of all people are arguing with me about this. What about finding out your child was serial raped? I’m sorry, but people should have this.

We have PTO, take it for whatever reason no questions. Mental health is no joke, I get the need to reset and clear the head sometimes.

Mental health days are usually to get away from the office for your sanity. Unless you're workin 7 days a week they aren't necessary.
It's just stress relief

Mental illness is a serious issue and I wouldn't consider taking a personal day off for personal issues a mental health day. That's far more serious than a day off for stress relief

I don’t have “sick” days as much as I have “sick of this shite” days.

That's definitely how I would use it, but there are a lot of fragile (and I don't mean this in a completely negative and derogatory sense) folks who benefit from having some time off for mental health. Better to have them take a break than to have a breakdown at work.

My sis is currently on leave for her mental health. Her husband of 30+ years died. He died over a year ago but she has kept busy, working, taking care of everything and never really dealt with the utter loss of my BIL.

I almost lost her about a week ago. Things had just gotten to be too much for her. She is now off work for a few weeks and attending daily therapy and classes and focusing on herself.

In her case it is absolutely necessary, she is not a snowflake or a slacker. She is simply lost and needs to get her bearing straight again and her compass pointed in the right direction.

and no pics, lol

Nah, we just call them sick days. No need for any extra verbiage.

Some people in the corporate world have a thing called "personal days" included in their comp package.

I've been taking mental health days for 25 years, I just said I was sick. Sick isn't always a physical illness, sometimes I'm just sick of frickin work.

I get paid time off, sick leave and military leave. Why add to the list? Unless it is in addition to the others.

At least at my company personal time (typically a day or less for unforseen absences) can be spent without approval, while vacation is reserved for longer periods (longer than a day).

Waking up on the wrong side of the bed and not being productive would be considered a personal day. As a result, personal time accrued slower than vacay time.

Most of corporate America have combined mental/ family/sick into one bucket.

The average 1-3 yr pup has roughly 45 days to use.

What the hell?

Have you ever called in sick to work because you just didn't feel like going? Or weren't really sick enough to not go in, but didn't feel great?

Those are mental health days. Whether they're labeled as such or not.
