I take this as being kind of figure of speech. I don't think it actually happens much in a literal sense. I thought everybody knew that.
I mean I've said when my wife and I were bickering that I was "in the doghouse". Believe it or not I didn't actually spend the night in the doghouse.

I can't not argue if your next to me and I think I'm right. I'll never sleep on the couch, but in 8 years, I've probably slept in the guest room 2 or 3 times. Mostly due to a late fight and I'm just too tired to argue. And if I'm laying down next to her and something pops in my head, I'll be the one that turns around with the "and you know what else blah blah blah". Sometimes it's just better to go in the other room and sleep it off.

I just dropped $2700 on a new King Size bed and mattresses. I'm sleeping on them. When my wife had our daughter she slept in the living room on one of the recliners so she could wake up and breast feed. She's pregnant again so while I will get the bed back to myself again, I'll be joined by my 1 yr old, who sleeps like a wild banshee.

I have a bed in my office purely so I can get away. My wife has never kicked me out, but I have self-imposed exile many times.

Hell no, I sleep in my bed no matter how mad she is. I usually rub one out one her leg just to show dominance.

I self impose exile in a real bed in the guest bedroom because I don't like being punched and kicked when I snore, need to get the surgery eventually on my deviated septum. I don't care how big of a fight we got in, if I didn't have a guest bed, my arse is sleeping in a real bed. frick getting a bad nights sleep and a sore back for a week or more.
