I thought this was an interesting article.

Results showed that men have higher expectations, believing that good dates cost about $220, while the average woman believes a good date costs $170.

How about meet out for a coffee or a drink to scope each other out, make sure she isn't an axe murderer, and then back to the house for cooking together, some wine and a movie?

Way cheaper and more fulfilling than spending a couple hundred on overpriced everything

People are so infatuated with money there's no wonder most have none.

If your date would rank the experience in terms of cost, hopefully you would not get too serious with said date.

But how long can respondents keep shelling out for love? Two-thirds of those surveyed said that dates have become more expensive over the past year.

So much so that 37% see themselves going on fewer dates within the next year because of the economy and 60% will budget how much they’ll spend on relationships overall.

So, like the rest of us?

I can't imagine spending (or expecting someone to spend) that much on a "date" if we're just casually dating. That's nuts. Maybe they surveyed people in really high COL areas?

In comparison to early mortgage payoffs, spending $220 on a date might be borderline dumb. I see no benefit for spending this kind of money on a date and if it is expected, one could start to wonder if this is truly a good woman you are dating.

Every date in a casual dating situation shouldn't be a $170+ dinner. That's just a stupid expectation.

Yeah, but Making pasta with someone is and awesome and fun experience.

Food isn't just about the eating, it's about the kitchen time. You'll learn a lot about someone in the kitchen.

This discussion brings to mind the old adage of the most important aspect of paying a woman for sex is the “her promptly leaving afterwards” part.

I've had women describe my food as an "orgasm for their taste buds". I'm not microwaving spaghetti-Os here. You make it a whole thing. Going to make groceries together. Picking out cheeses and meats for the charcuterie, all your fresh veggies (and making jokes about the rudely shaped ones).

It's a fun time, lot of laughs, and helps you sort out the ones worth the effort from the ones that just want a free meal.
