Twitter.

I think her quote was something like “when I was a kid you could dress like Diana Ross or whoever and if you admired the person it was ok?”

I am really paraphrasing a bunch but that was the gist. A discussion about it leading to her discussing what she could have wore in the 1970’s, if she so chose, as a child. But never actually did.

Her show was dull but this was ridiculous. You’d have sworn she walked out and said, “Mammie!” In full costume.

Young white girls used to dress up like Diana Ross? That is absurd.

I do believe, however, that in her environment, it was OK to make fun of blacks.

What she said was not racist at all.

Like, not fricking at all.

Pretty unreal. If someone else (non-republican) said this, I don't think they'd be attacked. And I'm saying that as a non-republican myself.

I don't care if she gets fired or not. But thgs isn't her first time. She claimed Santa was White. She's a mini skirt who got too old for Fox. There is nothing else there, imv.

People like her dumb down the conversation.

all early reports were, she was already fired, so how can she still have a show if she no longer works there? inquiring minds want to know?

They only brought her on as a frick you to Fox. She never fit in there and she was so anti Trump that she accepted the offer from NBC. After the luster wore off, they were looking for a reason to throw her on the trash pile.

They can throw me in a trash pile for 69 million. I'll be a damn garbage pail kid for that kinda jack.

"freedom of speech

How was her freedom of speech infringed upon?

Nobody is coming to arrest her. However her comments do not exclude her from consequences from her employer, right or wrong.

It's very simple. One of the trade offs for her was to tow the company line. In exchange she got fame and lots of money. On her own, she made comments that her employer decided not to stand behind and so as a private company exercised their right to terminate her.

Now, she has the right to say I don't think I did anything wrong. That's perfectly fine, but her company has the right to say goodbye.

Personally I don't even understand why white people feel the need to even do black face. What is the appeal? Honestly.

I don't think the thread title is the whole story. The show had performed poorly in the ratings, she wasn't good as a talk show host, she had conflicts with high-profile guests, and what little bit I saw of it was painfully boring. I think the blackface comments were just the last straw and as others have indicated, they were probably already fishing for a reason to dump her.

Hah...finally somebody truly deserving of being fired gets fired over a slight misstep in "journalism"....you know if another "journalist" did this she would be all over their arse.
