All those pics look like he's protecting the kid.

The kid was protected when a bullet went through the animal's head. Not before. Now after? The parents have some serious explaining to do about how their kid got away from them.

Sorry the ape had to be killed, but there is no question in that situation.

I'm not disputing the ape should have been killed. He should have.

However, 38 years of the zoo having no prior incidents proves the design was safe. Let's not act like the parents just turned their heads and that kid teleported down there in a blink, either.

If it ever goes to trial, the lawyer for the zoo's insurance company will get her on the stand and use her like his own personal pinata.

You know there's video too? If you bother to watch it you can see the gorilla flinging the kid around like a rag doll. Even if the ape is treating him like he would a baby gorilla, that's still too rough for a human 4 year old.

Didn't see the vid. That's why I said it looked that way in the pics.

A gorilla protecting the kid is about like me catching and protecting a butterfly

All my good intentions still usually end up with a dead butterfly.

A dead gorilla is about a million times less tragic than a dead kid.

Criminal history or not, negligent parent or not, the kid did not deserve to die. Neither did the gorilla, but I'm not going to lose sleep over someone choosing to protect the kid even if the parents didn't.

What exactly is she suing for? Emotional distress from failure to monitor her own child?

Obviously the mom sucks at watching her kids, but to dig up the dad's criminal background and writing up an article about it seems a little excessive.

What is even worse is people will read this and argue the gorilla should have been saved instead of the kid, or something along the lines of the kid deserving whatever happened to him.

A kid deserving to die for playing around. As a 4 year old. Think about that for a second, and then consider the fact that it has been said many times in the other thread on this subject.

How are people still defending these "parents" is beyond me. one is a criminal, and the other should be charged as one!

I applaud Mrs. Gregg for having the courage to keep her last name after the marriage. She is an insperation to women everywhere.

the lawyer for the zoo's insurance company will settle the case; because taking the ten years (at between $250-1,000 per hour) to fight a case like this where there are negligible damages isn't a smart use of money.

Edited for reality.

I haven't really followed this much but why couldn't they just use a tranquilizer on the gorilla?

If a zoo invites people onto their premises, especially if they charge a fee, they have a duty to ensure the premises are safe from this exact thing. A deadly silverback gorilla? You have to ensure that is safe from things just like this, and they didn't follow their duty.

True, but that doesn't eliminate the responsibility of parenting. I'm not sure of this particular state's laws, but most have comparative negligence. The zoo attorneys will have a field day arguing that this hasn't happened since the zoo inception, and the parents hold the majority of negligence for not keeping track of their own 4 year old child in this setting.

Doesn't matter, they have insurance so it's not like it will even cost time anything at the end of the

So explain to us what damages were sustained by the child and family? I didn't read that the child was significantly injured in any way.

You said that the family was going to own the zoo. Explain how they're going to establish that amount of damages?

IF the kid would have died, you'd be talking about million plus dollars and damages, reduced by the parent's negligence. For this? Maybe medical bills paid (if any) and a few thousand, and reduced by the percentage of parent fault. I want to know why you think an insurance company would pay enough for the parents to buy out the zoo.

She looks like the gorilla. Not her fault, the boy was confused.
