Unlikely to work quick enough to subdue the gorilla. Could have infuriated him to the point where he killed the child as a result. Risk>>>>>>>>>>>>>>reward.

If it was an albino gorilla, they would have.

Even if the ape is treating him like he would a baby gorilla, that's still too rough for a human 4 year old.

It's almost as if 4 year old children shouldn't be in a gorilla habitat.......

Kid was better off being raised by the gorilla.

Could have been Tarzan. So much wasted potential.

If a zoo invites people onto their premises, especially if they charge a fee, they have a duty to ensure the premises are safe from this exact thing. A deadly silverback gorilla? You have to ensure that is safe from things just like this, and they didn't follow their duty.

Doesn't matter, they have insurance so it's not like it will even cost time anything at the end of the day.

You're either trolling or an idiot. I'd bet my paycheck that you voted for Obama (twice).

In America 2016, yes.

You said that the family was going to own the zoo. Explain how they're going to establish that amount of damages?

I don't know how long the child was down there, but I bet we can find some quantum on how much each minute of pain and anguish was suffered at the hands of that zoo is worth.

Did she have to watch the gorilla get shot? There's some more anguish, nobody should be forced to see that, especially if they paid to enter the zoo.

Not sure if the mother and father are married, but probably some loss of consortium in there, too. Can't imagine the mother will be able to have normal relations for a while on account of this nightmare she was out through at the hands of the negligent zoo.

I could probably come up with a handful more of I had more facts.

Que?

You can be negligent and still not be 100% at fault. Like Festus said, even if the parents are 30-40% culpable, the zoo can still be at fault.

I know people don't like it, but saying that if the parents were paying attention none of this would have happened doesn't remove fault from the zoo. The kid didn't die, but what if he would have? That was certainly a possibility once the child fell into the exhibit. A certain amount of negligence should be anticipated by the zoo if they're going to have open exhibits.

The idea that you can have an open exhibit that resulted in a 4 year old entering it is troublesome at best.

What is at fault here? The gorilla was put down.

Does the zoo have to pay insurance on its animal? Or to the place that it is loaning the animal from or would have sent the animal to?

Is the zoo suing the parents for having to kill their gorilla to save the child?

What is the overall loss to the zoo besides the animal's life and any legal action from the parents or from coalitions on/about animals in captivity?

her kid got into an animal enclosure at a zoo

Sure, but how? Was it a momentary thing where the boy just went through the bars? Seriously, do you have kids? When you go to the zoo wouldn't you assume that the zoo wouldn't have an enclosure that could be breached by a 4 year old? Strikes me as more of a freak accident than of bad parenting. But people will be self-righteous.

There's a trade-off between safety and quality of entertainment.

There's not much that the zoo could foresee about a determined little shithead kid with no respect for his parents or nature that was apparently told multiple times that he could not go play with the gorillas.

That little frick isn't going to learn a thing. He'll be in the news again before he turns 20 doing something bad.

Find it and post it. We're all waiting.

So now, the parents will have to divide policy limits with every other patron that witnessed the shooting. That reduces the limits that the parents can recover, but go on...

Ok, suspect trolling now.

We're waiting. Document quantum, reduce for comparative negligence, and let me know when you come up with enough that would allow them to purchase this zoo. I suspect it would cost what, $20-100 million.

Don't leave....come back and do the math.

Because tranquilizers don't work instantly like they do in the movies. They take up to 10 minutes or more to take effect. In the meantime the gorilla becomes even more enraged because he's got a dart hanging out of his arse.
