MGH researchers began their trial in 2017 with 269 adults (average age of 37) from the greater Boston area who were interested in obtaining a medical marijuana card. One group was allowed to get MMCs immediately, while the second group, designed to serve as a control, was asked to wait 12 weeks before obtaining a card. Both groups were tracked over 12 weeks. The team found that the odds of developing CUD were nearly two times higher in the MMC cohort than in the wait list control group, and that by week 12, 10 percent of the MMC group had developed a CUD diagnosis, with the number rising to 20 percent in those seeking a card for anxiety or depression.
So right off the bat:
- A study of 269 people in one area of the country is hardly a good representation of a large population with varying ages, medical conditions, etc.
- Two times higher (if the groups were close to evenly distributed) is 8 people instead of 4 developed CUD.
- Interestingly enough, you only need two of the following to qualify for CUD:
Continuing to use cannabis despite physical or psychological problems
Continuing to use cannabis despite social or relationship problems
Craving cannabis
Difficulty controlling or cutting down cannabis use
Giving up or reducing other activities in favor of cannabis
Problems at work, school, and home as a result of cannabis use
Spending a lot of time on cannabis use
Taking cannabis in high-risk situations
Taking more cannabis than was intended
Tolerance to cannabis
Withdrawal when discontinuing cannabis
- And then there's who funded the study:

It's helped my anxiety. I've definitely noticed it's easier to keep the train from fully going off the track when I get to panic attack level.

This sounds like something made up by Boomers.

Medical marijuana has always been a gateway to legalization. Anyone who says otherwise has an agenda
It only really makes sense for cancer patients

Psychedelics will be the future.

People with mental problems who use drugs to cope with them get addicted to said drug.

effectively doubles the risk of developing addictive symptoms and cannabis use disorder (CUD).

Is this some newfangled term? They realized they can’t convince us pot is addictive anymore so now they slap on a new label?

Lol they can put 100 doctors in a room with my high arse and they call all tell me that the weed I just smoked is doing nothing for my back pain, chronic shoulder pain, etc. EVERY SINGLE ONE of them would be wrong, but they could do it.

Sounds like it's helping pain. I don't see why they need to get all preachy science about it

Didn’t see where this was mentioned. But your post is evidence that the devils lettuce reduces comprehension abilities and makes you a dullard.

Gotta disagree on this one (only for cancer patients).
I'll have to see if I can find the study, but it can also reduce pain/discomfort for Crohn's and IBD patients. Because there is a molecule in cannabis that mimics something released in the gut that reduces inflammation. At one point University of Kentucky was studying the effects THC has on rebuilding the gut lining as well.

You know what it does help with....boredom. It enhances the mundane and takes the edge off the daily grind.

Neither does alcohol or nicotine but they are both still legal and taxable.

One of my best friends uses Medical Marijuana to help with his Crohn's, and he says it's the best thing to ever happen to him.
