McDonalds can now tear down an old location and rebuild it in 100 days

I'm not surprised that a fast food giant would value speedy, efficient construction. But I'm still impressed.
Maybe they'll get around to replacing that old ice cream machine that's always broken.

The McDonald’s at Perkins Road-College Drive will be demolished and replaced by a new restaurant that would open in the fall.
A permit to tear down the 3,432-square foot restaurant at 4615 Perkins has been applied for, along with a permit to build a new 3,807-square-foot McDonald's has been submitted to the city-parish.
Troy Romero, vice president of marketing, development & food safety for MacLaff, a local McDonald’s franchisee, said the plan is to start the demolition in May or June. It will take 100 days to tear down one building and replace it.

There is a systemic reason for this, if you're interested.
30 min YT documentary explains why

They just did this exact thing on Sherwood by the interstate.

Yep. It was pretty impressive to be honest.

That's impressive....
Waffle House also replaces their stores every 20 years and can do it in about 100 days too.

Yes and the new ones are as aesthetically pleasing as a cardboard box. Yes I know it's just a cheap hamburger stand.

They were more efficient in Lexington
Build a new one down the street
Then tore down the old one and sold the land
McDonalds is a toy and real estate company, the food is just a side line

They just did this to the one close to my house in Little Rock. Kind of amazing.

I think the ones with the mansard roofs look a lot better, at least until they painted them all red. But the inside of them have felt very plastic and sterile since at least the 1990s.

As ugly as the new ones are, the Baton Rouge area locations at least have very nice landscaping. Even the older locations are fairly well kept from that perspective.

Some local guys are working with LSU to solve this issue once and for all.

BATON ROUGE — Inventherm, a tenant of LSU Innovation Park, has been awarded a $650,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to develop a commercial prototype of its breakthrough soft-serve ice cream machine.Inventherm’s Cremmjoy machines contain the product, whether soft-serve ice cream or slushies, in consumable packaging. As a result, the soft-serve mix never touches any part of the machine. This is a complete departure from the devices now used, which must be shut down, taken apart and cleaned, which can be a difficult and costly process. Conventional machines are also a significant contributor to foodborne illnesses, with some studies showing more than 50 percent of the machines are contaminated by unsatisfactory bacteria.

No thanks.
Saw one of these old ones in Baton Rouge a couple weeks ago and it was falling apart.

Isn’t that like one of the last old design McDonald’s building? Should just rebuild it the exact same instead of like the new McDonald’s.

The one on Airline @ Prescott and the one up on Plank @ Denham both still have basements.
I think the new McDonalds architecture is less inviting. Maybe they are trying to encourage more drive-thru orders and fewer dining room orders.
And it doesn't matter which one of the dual drive-thrus you are in.....that will be the one that doesn't work.

I suppose they're all built the same knowing exactly what's needed down to the number of bricks it takes to complete the job. It's interesting who they use for contractors to complete the work on time.

Or go full on retro like they did with the ones on Poplar Ave in Memphis. I'm with you that the newer style just doesn't stand out or seem inviting like the older ones did (at least when they were new).
