You are forced to pay into a regulated monopoly that is subsidized by the govt all the while they keep charging more while letting their infrastructure crumble

If it was capitalism the electric companies would have to compete for your business

It’s a regulated monopoly only because the investment and expenses to have multiple options for most people would be astronomical and make it more expensive. You realize that right? So you want to pay for multiple water and electric lines to every address? Lol

I mean, I agree with some of this, but when you pay for electricity and you lose it in the middle of a freeze with frozen roads, you're pretty much screwed. That's not looking for a handout, that's expecting what you paid for when you need it the most. I'm guessing he had power and didn't send that long post from his phone, but I could be wrong.

I am not waiting for some rescue me, I wanting the power or the water I pay for to turn on.

God forbid the mayor has to do his job

That’s where I’m at.

Should people have a backup plan? Sure.

But is it too much to ask for the utilities you pay out of the arse for to have a better infrastructure to at the very least soften the blow?

Every company should have an emergency plan.

My sister and her family had a back up plan. They've also not had power for three days so they have busted water pipes, water frozen solid in their toilets and bath tubs, and three small children. They have a gas fireplace and heaters, guess what, when it's 5 degrees outside that isn't going to do shite. If the electric companies would have prepared for this production facilities wouldn't be frozen and my family wouldn't be in a 30 degree house.

But they must just be a bunch of them gay arse libruls

This guy, and of course, two thirds of the posters in this thread are fricking morons.

Youre right, it wasn't an emergency. They knew about it for 2 weeks and didn't prepare.

We all know that most of them would be bitching the loudest about government failure if they were to find themselves in this situation.

And to be fair, we went though this here in Louisville back in 2009. Despite higher charges for “maintenance” of trees across lines in the area, it was found after two major storms (summer and winter) that part of the reason we saw such a large, extended power outage was LG&E failed to maintain trees in the easement that were hanging over wires. When they were damaged due to wind or ice, it took out a ton of lines. If they had been cut back, it would’ve reduced the outage time and spread in both storms.

We specifically pay a fee for them to maintain and they weren’t doing it. Was it wrong to be pissed that our money wasn’t being used as allocated? But of course because LG&E is the only electric service here you have next to no recourse over it.

Regardless it’s his job to help his citizens when the shite hits the fan you can’t just say sorry fellas you are on your own but thanks for the taxes.

Yep, the dude had no business being mayor of a city. If your reaction to a crisis is to quit in middle of it while firing off a social media rant filled with the usual politically charged buzz words, then you don't belong in a leadership position. That's soft AF.

Play stupid games.......

Guy is a putz and the citizens will be better without him.

That said, I agree with people stepping up where they can for self preservation. Thing is, these conditions are much harder than typical. Most of the burden is on the utilities that are PAID FOR......but you don’t die on principle

There is nothing "more government" than this guy-

"Rely on us, rely on us"

"Oh shite, we suck at our jobs. Don't rely on us"

He's right
IF they government didn't extort so much fricking money from us to provide these services. If the government didn't put in place utility monopolies. The government taxes the shite out of us to provide services that we should be able to choose on our own if we want to pay for them or not from a private organization.
