Seven out-of-state consulting firms are in the running for Mayor Sharon Weston Broome’s $300,000 disparity study, which will examine whether there are racial, gender or ethnic disparities in the city-parish contracting process.

quote:

Broome issued a request for proposals in March, after the Metro Council approved the study in February. The consultant will design and conduct a study to identify what small, minority-, woman- and veteran-owned businesses in East Baton Rouge Parish qualify for government contract work, while also determining what, if any, bias exists in city-parish departmental procurement practices.

quote:

The study required Metro Council approval due to its $300,000 price tag, which Broome has said will be covered by excess sales tax collections.

Such a crock of shite.

If you are a white male, just put the business in your wife's name and now you are female owned business.

Girl power!

All I can do is laugh. You have a lot of crime, a police department that is losing good cops, a high welfare rate and God knows what else. And you’re wasting $300k on a diveristy study. Go get fricked you waste of air.

The seven firms being considered include:

Keen Independent Research, of Denver

Griffin & Strong, of Atlanta
Euquant, of Atlanta
Miller3 Consulting, of Atlanta
Mason Tillman Associates, or MTA, of Oakland, California

MGT Consulting Group, of Tallahassee, Florida
Abaci Research & Consulting
ARC, of Bastrop, Texas

Let's all just be honest here. 99% chance the Atlanta and Oakland firms are minority owned and operated.* Chances they get picked and immediately find "bias" in the current Baton Rouge system?

Let's save the $300k and just declare Baton Rouge a racist system and impose a set-aside program to benefit Broome's constituents. This is where it is going anyway, just save the money.

*If I had more time today, I would love to Google each of those firms and find out how many of them are minority owned. She couldn't possibly be dumb enough to have picked all minority owned. Or could she?

All one should have to do to win the mayor job in the next election is say they will no longer fund studies. Of course that is assuming that people will actually show up and vote this time so that she is not elected again.

saying she aimed to “change the culture” of city-parish contracting to give disadvantaged businesses a better shot at landing government contracts.

I try to give my business to local or unique businesses as much as possible IF they provide a quality service and a somewhat reasonable price (I understand if they can't beat massive businesses but sometimes the extra price to me is worth it). But businesses shouldn't be given contracts unless they're the best option. If they're disadvantaged because they aren't as good of a business then they shouldn't be picked.
