If SG fails, there will be a massive push to begin annexations of large chunks of SG. I believe Jackson has started doing this now that all the tax base has moved outside city limits.

Actually Central and Zachary were proactive and got out of the EBR School System when they had the chance. It has helped their schools.
Whether or not their city has benefited is questionable. Central for one has had issues and I am not talking about from the flood.

I have no real dog in the fight as I'm sitting pretty living in Klein School District in Spring, TX (best in Houston area) and work in the Woodlands.
You live in an unincorporated area of Harris county breh. This is about incorporation.

I certainly understand those who are pro-St George wanting their tax dollar to go to schools, better roads, well staffed police department, etc, etc. Instead of being wasted by Broome and her crooked cronies in NBR who are only looking out for the part of the parish that contributes little to nothing but stands with their hands out crying discrimination and racism.
Roads would be one of the worst examples of this argument, as some of the most recent infrastructure improvements have been within the proposed area.

listen up....there is a certain segment of the population which does not seem to care much for education, work ethic, family values and have been basically left ruder-less and without true leadership, in precisely those areas. Choosing instead, to blame others for their own "cultural" failures and wallow in self pity.
Well said and absolutely true. Unfortunately for the citizens of BR, the mayor and her administration are of the mindset that the failures of the black residents of north BR are, at least indirectly, caused by the white residents of south BR. Her transition team labeled anyone who supports the St. George agenda as a racist.

Not likely. They had to use a railroad to connect commercial properties last time. Only one neighborhood requested annexation last go around, and they gave themselves a CATS tax in the process.

This is probably going to be more about schools now. Controlling and running your own law enforcement is a selling point now.

Truth
Way too many fat cats on that campus that collect large salaries and don't do anything

You could hand them the keys to the city and tell them it's all theirs. Every problem would still be whitey's fault and every success would be theirs alone.

"Success" would be graded on a severe curb to say the least.

City Hall already had a massive push and took in parts of the Mall of La., the BRGH, and the L'auberge Casino. Expected to follow was the rest of the mall and major properties along Bluebonnet and elsewhere, but that hasn't happened.
I'm not an insider, but there has to be a good reason that they didn't annex more commercial properties. The CATS tax is one reason probably, but there must be others too.
But yes, I would look for another push from Broome and her cohorts.

True, but incorporating SG would not change who builds/maintains roads anyway. That currently handled by the parish and SG wouldn't change that. SG has no interest in road maintenance I can assure you.

If St George happens are the black leaders in what's left in EBR going to just taxing the shite out of the white people left, to balance out the loss of tax revenue?
I would assume this would be the case. Broome would have to make up for the lost tax revenues in some way. On the flip side, I've also read that much of the area that would be included in St. George is not within the BR city limits, therefore the people who live there don't currently pay taxes to the city of BR. They pay parish taxes and would continue to do so as residents of St. George. I'm not sure if that information is correct or not.
quote:
Or will EBR just have a mass exodus of said group? Then all of EBR becomes NBR.
There is a LOT of old money in BR, particularly in and around the Garden District area. I seriously doubt those people would give up their homes to move to St. George.
quote:
I guess Broome, her cronies, and Gravy's followers would get exactly what they've always wanted. A truly Black BR. But as others have mentioned, it wouldn't take a month of Sunday's for it quickly to turn into Jackson, MS. Chicago. Or Detroit. Then they'd be begging for handouts from the government, state, and surrounding parishes.
If this is what Broome's ultimate goal is, then she is more stupid than I originally thought. Driving out those residents who pay for the majority of capital improvement projects is idiocy and should equal career suicide, as she will go down in history as the mayor who destroyed BR.
Broome could help stem the tide of St. George support by simply abandoning her racist agenda and working to make BR a better place to live for everyone, not just blacks. After all, she did receive a decent amount of support of white voters during the election, so obviously some whites were convinced at the time that she would be better for BR than Bodi White.

That's from the mayor's transition team report on racial relations. The bishop is on that racial relations team.

FKing is concerned and teaming up because LSU would NOT be a part of st George which would carve out different taxes for different areas. There's some thoughts that the area around LSU would start declining due to less taxes in the area. The schools in the area would also take a major hit without tax revenue coming from south Baton Rouge area.
