Water will not be shut off if bills aren’t paid.

Thank you miss Broome. The watar is important know and can’t be expected to pay everything on time in this hard environment. Snap should also be handle up on. Higher limit on our cards is important in this hard time. We got too eat.

Gotta love the definition of poor in this country. The person complaining about starving is doing so via smartphone.

I feel like people are missing the fact that they will have to pay it eventually (unless I'm misunderstanding).

BR billing is usually fine. I pay about $85 or so for water, sewage and trash.

I’d shut down auto draft just on principle, but I’m too lazy

The water service in Baton Rouge is provided by a privately owned company NOT by the EBR government.
I wonder if the owners of that company knew this "don't have to pay for water" edict was coming?
EDIT: After re-reading the article in the link, she actually doesn't say "Don't pay for water."
She says "Don't cut anyone's water off." Maybe it's the same thing...

She is saying that to the people who already weren't paying them.

True, but it's a utility, which means they are under the oversight of the Public Service Commission and must accept some degree of government control in exchange for enjoying a government sanctioned monopoly. For instance, they can't change their pricing policies without prior approval of the PSC.

Will they refund me for the water bill I paid yesterday? I can’t be expected to pay everything on time in this hard environment.

Jesus fricking Christ.
Know how Detroit and Flint got fricked? They had people unwilling or unable to pay their bills and the city water unable to turn off service to them.
I wouldn’t expect many water bills north of Government to be paid anytime soon.
