I saw the facebook video.
There are literally Texans in the comment section arguing that it doesn't matter how fast you drive on black ice. I guess now we know why this happened.

Yes. They pre-treat with a brine solution the day before. This brine supposedly stays on the road for a few days unless it rains which i don't think it did over there. After ice falls, they come back and put down more brine but there are so many highways it takes a while to get to all of them.

It's crazy how many people don't understand this. Nobody is going to go well under the speed limit if there is a possibility of ice but none around. Especially on an interstate with every car flying around you.
My truck gives me an ice warning every time it's below freezing, that doesn't mean I drive everywhere that day like I'm on an ice covered surface

My question is why are locals on those overpasses if they know there will be black ice on them. It's so predicatable.

Like I said earlier, even though we got freezing rain the highways were fine except for that one spot. So while you may have been cautious at the start of your drive when you realized there was no ice, you speed up and then boom.

The thing that kills me is that it's like watching a mass suicide happen. One by one everyone at one point is driving or has driven to their death. It's fricking tragic.
