How is it the $100MM airplane crashes and burns into a million small pieces and the $37MM plane lands safely in a farm field and most likely will be flying again relatively soon?

Used to travel to Mobile weekly and would stay at the Battle House. Across the water from the convention center one of these monstrosities was being built or having work done for a year. Would marvel out how ugly it was and eventually looked up the price tag on it. Think the totals ended up being 7 plus billion per ship. Insane.

Because the price tags are inversely proportional to the size and strength of the aircraft.

If they manage to repair that J model, they damn sure better put an F-35 silhouette on the side of it.

That's why the real flying should be left to the pilots with "U.S.A.F." on the side of their jets.(and Hercs as well)

I hated calling AF for CAS. Those pussies don’t come close to having any balls and couldn’t hit stadium without a LGM.

Unfortunately, a KC-130J is going to be worth way more than what the article says. $37MM is close to the number I normally see the Air Force associate with legacy C-130s.
I think slick Js are about 50MM, so I would imagine a KC-130J is going to be well north of that. Just a guess though.

What a loser. I prefer pilots that don’t crash their planes

They are gonna cut that plane into 1000 pieces and haul it out of there to the scrap pile.

My guess is that 3 & 4 chewed on that F-35 a little. No idea about number 1 on the left wing. Probably made ground contact on landing.

I can only imagine the sound those two right side engines were making before they shut down. That seat cushion would have been egress Ing with me.

Can verify the USAF CAS post. Just grateful the VMF followed up.

True USAF story from Chu Lai. Long story short - late night, there is a landing light in the distance that looks like he is lined up for a straight-in approach. No radio contact, despite all efforts. On short approach, tower is flashing the red spot at the aircraft. We had a USMC F-4 hung up in the morest, dead center in the runway. The guy lands, somehow goes around the aircraft on the runway & rolls out. “Chu Lai tower, aircraft at the end of runway 18, identify”. The reply, “Chu Lai tower?” This USAF dummy thought he was landing in DaNang, 60 miles north.

Would hate to see one of them try to put it down on a runway that is tossing 20+ feet vertically on a carrier.

We just need to spend more on the military, yeah that is a good use of money. Who needs bridges and schools when you have the cuulest jet?

That farmer will be taken care of very well. No worries there. Pilot did a great job but from what im told landing with two engines out like that is something they practice in the sim each year but still very difficult. From what im told by a c130 pilot.

Not an aviation guy but no, stall speed for fighter may be lower than you think. Fighters can go fast but they can also go slow. And who knows, maybe refueling speed is 200 knots.

So there is no way to get that plane out of the field? I mean, I don't see how, so I understand, but crap....they destroy the plane? crap again.
