Drove from Houston to Big Bend National Park this time last year. I believe it. There are stretches in West Texas where there aren’t gas stations or stop lights for 100+ miles.

Yes we all know. Texas is annoying as shite.
It’s just luck too, they joined at a time when we had lots of states to manage. Louisiana purchase happened when we were looking to add more state so we divided it up.

It's 880 miles across Texas on I 10 and about 530 miles of nothing between San Antonio & EL Peso.....

We got Texas in the first place because Mexico was stupid and invited Americans to "come on down".
They did and ended up overwhelming them.
