Okay. I have met native Louisianans who had a Brooklyn type accent. I thought it was strange because they didn’t sound like the Cajun accents that I hear far more often South of New Orleans. One of my boat captains this year must have been a Yat because he sounded like he was from New York but said he was born and bred in New Orleans. Thanks for educating me on that. Now I know.

He was a Yat. That's pretty exclusive to that one area.

I was born and raised in Marrero. Left at 19 for the Army, served 20 years on active duty.
Whenever someone tried to guess where I was from it was always Boston or New York. Never once without me saying something first was Louisiana mentioned. I never understood it.

I haven't researched it but I would guess mass Italian immigration to NO faded after the anti-Mafia riots of the 1890s.
