I get what you're trying to say, but it's not really that simple.
Nothing gets passed without the support of the Louisiana Sheriffs association. They are without a doubt, the most powerful lobby in the state.
Everyone is in their pocket. The fricking paid for a bunch of people to go to Hilton Sandestin after getting

State Rep. Joe Lopinto sponsored a bill last year that called for millions of dollars in new annual revenue for sheriffs across Louisiana. The measure provided reimbursements to local sheriffs housing state inmates who had been released on parole and re-arrested. Subject to appropriation, the estimated annual cost of the expanded reimbursements is $15.3 million, according to the nonpartisan legislative fiscal office.
Guess where Lopinto is from...fricking JP Sheriffs office.
Everyone likes to talk a lot of shite about how bad off Louisiana is politically but nobody would dare bite the hand that feeds.

Have you never read a newspaper arrest section?
I'm not saying the fricking companies market it as marijuana. They don't literally have marijuana in the title of "K2". Or whatever else.
I'm saying the media and the rest of the world,..when talking about it...liken it to marijuana, when the only things it has in common with marijuana is that it's usually green and smoked.
People doing this, little by little only demonize true cannabis.

They make that trip every year.

So? I think you're missing the point. The Sheriffs associations used their influence to get bills passed to generate more revenue. As in for profit sheriff departments. Let that sink in. For profit police.

The Sheriffs' Association picked up Lopinto's $2,292 tab, which included travel and admission to the association's annual training conference at the resort. It was the single-largest lobbyist expense on an individual reported since 2009

The Sheriffs' Association also incurred the second-, third- and fourth-largest expenses by paying for state Sen. Bodi White, Attorney General Buddy Caldwell and Jeya Selvaratnam, a former information technology director with the state Department of Public Safety, to attend the same event. The combined total spent was $7,705, according to the Sheriffs Association's disclosures.

Okay but we'd be dealing with something similar to alcohol - instead of being forced to purchase an unsafe alternative to get their high, they'd get their older brother to pass them legit weed.

One problem with Louisiana is, at the moment, I doubt y'all have the available warehouse space to accommodate the grows. Commercial and warehouse real estate will skyrocket in value.
Also, Louisiana isn't know for their strong public health departments. Concentrates that use a petroleum based solvent could be slightly sketchy, as well as the fertilizers used for the plants themselves. You have to use a high quality vacuum oven to purge out the solvent. Though there are new concentrates that are supposedly 80+% thc, and solvent free, like the old bubble hash or the Moroccan hash (though they might have used camel shite as a binder).
Molds could also be a problem in Louisiana grow operations. They've found mold in lots of the marijuana in Colorado, which has a climate that is dry as a bone (though after hearing and reading reports, I'm thinking it's from improper curing). Though it's still probably minimal compared to any other states' marijuana.
That said, I smoked some nasty, moldy shite back when I was buying schwag from Jamaica or Mexico. And most of the bud in the south is older buds, bit fresh at all. I didn't realize how old until I visited after moving to Colorado. Marijuana is surprisingly perishable.
But from a public safety stand point, it's ridiculous to continue prohibition. Synthetic weed is absolutely horrible for anyone. Smokers are also getting a safer product, and the cartels are losing out on billions.
With all this reefer talk, I think I'm going to look through the free Colorado reefer magazine, to see if any dispensaries have a good sale going on. There's something that feels great about buying weed with a coupon.

I know all this but you are missing the point of the original post I responded to where he was blaming the "cops". As in blaming the guy in uniform who arrests someone. That guy isn't involved in any of this and is just enforcing the laws that he is paid and sworn to enforce.
This is like screaming at a Wal Mart cashier because of their corporate policies on healthcare. She doesn't have shite to do with that.
You want to blame the LSA? Go for it. Not a bad argument but well outside of the point I was making.

Agreed. I haven't updated my location, but I live in Colorado now as well. It was fascinating to see how all the dispensaries have opened and competed for business.
Personally, I haven't seen any negative effects of the legalization in this state. I will say I used to count the amount of people sitting in Denver traffic with vape pens/joints/one hitters and it would usually be around 25 people. Still, I haven't seen an increase in DUI's or other traffic incidents.
With the budget crisis in Louisiana, I wish they could adopt an open mind about how to generate revenue with marijuana.

Wouldn't have happened if he used regular marijuana!
Btw I didn't know that shite was still available, throw it all away

Good job, you just invented cocktails made with fake weed.

If he & his friends were doing "illegal drugs" as the article says... Is synthetic weed illegal? If yes, why would you buy illegal synthetic weed instead of real weed if it's illegal either way?
Damn. I feel old.

Unfortunately, the prison industrial complex is stronger in Louisiana. The highest incarceration rate in the country with the highest incarceration rate. The budget crisis is the only reason why it would even be considered within the next decade.
Though I am shocked how they dramatically reduced penalties last year. Apparently up to 2.5 pounds is still a misdemeanor, and no difference between herb or hash. In Florida, 21 grams of herb is a felony and any amount of hash is a felony.
