Teenagers aren't logical creatures and go through troubling problems

Most likely they are also dabbling in meth.

Absolutely. What I can't stand is how all the cops keep writing bills, voting on them as a group and then getting the Governor to sign them into law just so they can run out and enforce them. I wish that our system allowed for the citizens to vote and elect representatives (we could call them Congressmen and Senators) and THOSE folks would be the ones to set the laws. Then the cops would just be stuck enforcing the laws that our reps created. Now that would be the way to do it.
Ironically you're not too far off from the truth. Every bill that involves LEO gets a thumbs up or thumb down in committee from the LA DA association, the sherrifs Assoc., and local police chief's. If they say no the bill dies. No one has the balls to stand up to the LEO lobby.
They claim to stand up for the public good, meanwhile fake weed is killing their citizens, and they make money off of the real stuff. So much that if they legalized the real stuff, their racket would fall apart.
They'd lose money from grants, seizures, plus deduced budgets for drug enforcement only reduced further by lack of revenue from reduced seizures and fines.
It's all about the money. That's the only reason it's not legalized in LA right now.

As you said, the below is from a supposed friend of his on another message board.
"I was a friend of his and he only did mojo because our school drug tested so he couldn't have pot. He knew the dangers of it. I know that doesn't really make it any different though"
Still, hopefully kids learn that risk is too dangerous to take.

Uh, no. Nobody forces you to do synthetic marijuana. Although I know you were being sarcastic.

COVINGTON - A man who sold two teens Mojo, a synthetic marijuana, that ended with one teen dying is facing a second-degree murder charge.
Jabari Pea was booked with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Alexander James Shelby, a 17-year-old from Mandeville, who was found dead in a flooded ditch in Covington, possibly from an overdose of synthetic marijuana.
Covington Police Chief Tim Lentz said Shelby and another teen bought marijuana from Pea before but wanted a a "better high" the night they bought Mojo from him.
Both teens passed out after using the drug.
The St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office determined Shelby's death was due to the Mojo, and not the flooded ditch where he was body was found.
Lentz said the teens made a terrible mistake with fatal consequences. He urged others to not do the same.

The "kid" was 17. Old enough to go to big boy jail.

Not advocating drug use but that charge won't hold up in court. If it does then why not charge the heroin and meth dealer with murder anytime someone overdoses?
His "friend" from the other message board laid out the most likely scenario: he got drug tested at school so he used synthetic weed, knew the risks and accepted them. At 17 he was old enough to make his own decisions

They do. There was even one recently where a girl OD'ed and her boyfriend caught a murder charge. Pretty sure he is sitting in a cell as we speak.

This stuff is just as bad as real dope. Maybe even worse since kids have the impression it's just a substitute for weed

I wouldn't bet the farm on that.
I know a kid sitting in prison right now because he was the one that purchased the synthetic weed/whatever that him and his buddies smoked/snorted one night and one of the guys died.

FLORENCE — A Florence man pleaded guilty to giving a Muscle Shoals teen synthetic drugs that police said led to the teenager’s death from an overdose, authorities said.
Ryan Alexander Wilkes, 20, 915 Sunset Beach Road, Florence, pleaded guilty to unlawful distribution of a controlled substance. The charge is a Class B felony and is punishable by 2-20 years in prison.
Wilkes pleaded to giving Landon Letsinger, 17, a drug called “N-bomb,” a synthetic hallucinogenic drug.
Wilkes was indicted in September 2014 on charges of manslaughter and unlawful distribution of a controlled substance to a minor.
Lauderdale County District Attorney Chris Connolly said Tuesday afternoon that as a part of the agreement, Wilkes will be sentenced to 10 years, split with three years to serve — two in the department of corrections and one in Lauderdale County Community Corrections while wearing an ankle monitor.
