Man reorders grocery list from 2 years ago from Walmart. Price has almost quadrupled.

I saw this on the money board last night.

There's no way food costs have gone up 4x, although I think they've been higher than overall inflation. I'd say maybe 33% in the past 4 years.

I'd definitely notice if our grocery bill went from $250 to 1k

Saw a chart thay said food is up 25% since 2021. There's absolutely no way it's that low

Anecdotal for sure, but I do our budget, and $250 every 2 weeks was about what we'd spend on groceries pre-Covid. That's not counting little trips to the store for 3 things, but just our main grocery bill.

That's around $340 now for a family of 3.

Wonder if OP will edit this thread when he realizes that the dude in the video hit reorder 3 times in order to get to that number.

I know it's a small sample size.....but certain things definitely have. I could get a pound of ground beef for close to a buck a few years ago. It's around 5 now for 80/20

Spam is over $4 a can.

It certainly hasn't gone up 400% in it's entirety....but it sure as hell has at least doubled.

So you're telling me his average cost per item in 2022 was $2.80, but now its $9.20?

I'm calling BS on that dude. No food worth buying in 2022 was $2.80. Is this guy buying 45 packs of ramen?

It’s sad that Trump has emboldened these ceos to where they think they can raise prices like this

It sure as hell hasn’t.

I track all my spending. 2023 grocery expenses for my household were 24.09% higher than 2020.

Why would I edit the thread? I made no claims as to the veracity of the video. I'm just presenting it for discussion.

You are very vague about it, but I seriously doubt you were regularly buying “ground beef” anywhere for “close to a buck” a pound within the last “few years”.

The last time I remember seeing it that low, Rouses had it on sale in the 10 lb tubes for .99 /lb and that was at least 5 years ago - and that was a pretty big sale then (on 73%).

Three weeks ago I bought ground sirloin for $2.99 a lb (93%) on sale. Chuck was a dollar more.

Publix currently has their ground Chuck (80-20) for $4.49 lb regular price.

No doubt prices have gone up on beef, I’d say 20-25%, but it started with a big jump around the pandemic and seemed to have stabilized
since then.
