Shouldn’t going to an area with two chargers, in case one was down, be ample enough planning?

So having to plan out a trip from beginning to end like planning the D-day invasion is a testament to the superiority of EVs currently?

You should plan on stopping every 50 to 100 miles "just in case".

I think this is more about Bala being an idiot than EV’s or bad .

The base model F150 EV can only go 200 miles. If he needed to install a charger at his office, that seems like his commute is pretty far.

Also, he took a car designed to only drive within a city and try to take it across the country. It sounds like the warning labels about not blow drying your hair in the shower were made for him.

He paid $100k for a Ford with a sub 250 mile range?

I don’t care how much of a blue oval fanboy you are even after all the recalls, fires, supply chain failures, and substandard parts. That company can barely put together a normal car and he voluntarily bought their new lightning even after all the negative reviews on its range and charging capability?

He is an idiot for buying a Ford EV in its first generation, especially if he planned to take longer road trips.

Buy a Tesla like everybody else. You’ll spend less and have a better car. But you’ll have to live with the horror of supporting someone who values free speech instead of the hyper-woke Ford family.

It's not going to be a choice soon. Biden's new gas mileage regulations will make the choice for us.

I hate this guy more every day. FJB...

Part of the reason for the push of EV's is to prevent things like road trips.

That's it. "They" care about people from Bumfrick, LA taking their kids to Myrtle Beach in the summer.

The "push" for electric vehicles is about virtue signaling. It's retarded that this is a political issue, and not a market issue.

so this guy bought an EV and then planned his second stop to be in Albertville (population 7k)? haha he broke down a few miles short of Minneapolis, seems like he shouldve planned a stop somewhere like St. Cloud (pop 67k) between Minneapolis and Fargo.

You should always give yourself a fallback plan.

you know what I never have to do with my ICE?

have a backup plan for where to fill up.
if one pump is broken I go to the station across the street.
if that one is out, I jump across to the other corner of the intersection.

know what other problem I don't have?

doesn't take 2 hours to fill up my truck.
hell, filling up, dropping a deuce, buying something to eat, letting my dog shite in the dog park, etc. all in the same stop doesn't take 2 hours.

Based on this story, the road trip doesn’t even have to be cross country for the truck to become impractical. To use an example that applies in this part of the world, if going from 90% battery to 10% battery only gets you 215 miles, you wouldn’t be able to travel the distance from Birmingham to Gulf Shores/Orange Beach in that amount of battery usage.

Bingo.

Due to custody exchanges, it isn’t uncommon for me to have to make roughly 300-400 miles in one day twice a weekend.

And most areas of LA and MS aren’t really condusive to even getting gas at odd hours, let alone recharge an EV.

You’d have a point if his EV broke down.

But it didn’t break down. It was still perfectly functional. It was just incapable of completing what for an IC vehicle would be a simple road trip.

Sounds like he's giving advice he never heeded himself and to top it off thinks the government should be the ones doing it.

No empathy for this guy who dropped 130k on this set up as he should known all of the limitations beforehand.

1) He lives in Canada where it can get cold and we all know EV battery limitations in cold weather.
2)apparently wants to make cross country trips with some stops in rural areas when it's known that the EV fast charging infrastructure is in its infancy.
3) im also going out on a limb and say he dropped big bucks for a service panel upgrade to accommodate the max charge rate of ford's charging station, but probably could have been fine with a slower home charger or a derated charger.

Dudes a dumbass.

Agreed. EVs certainly have their shortcomings but this Canadian baw sounds like fricking retard.

i've shared this before, but i hit a deer back in June. had to bounce around a few rentals and the tesla from hertz was the cheapest one so we tried it for a few trips.

i had a 140 mile trip from Temple, TX to Cisco, TX for my recharge before i finished in Stamford, TX.

I left with 211 miles remaining and pulled into cisco with 1 mile remaining. i was told to drive under 60 mph for the last hour of the trip when it said i had 30 miles to spare and it just ticked down. my wife was pretty close to choking me out the last 20 minutes.

around town, baws car. loved it. i don't think most people that have one are saying it's a cross country car.

it's the people demonizing car culture and trying to outlaw ICE engines in 10 years that piss me off.

You’re being obtuse but you already know that.

Just like the poster you responded to said. They have a time and place. Live in the city? Great. Any type of road trip? Not so much.

But again, you knew that but felt the need to attempt a bad faith argument.

Sounds more like an issue with an uninformed buyer to me

It does sound like he had issues accessing some chargers, but again, you should not be planning cross country trips if you can't use the Tesla supercharging network, so my point still stands.
