Neck is not that impressive for somebody that goes around wearing a 20 lb chain.

If he had a 20 pound gold necklace he'd be fine. Gold is not magnetic.

No, but ferromagnetic, which means it has magnetic permeability and will experience a force in the presence of magnets.

Point is "it's not gold or silver".

Nothing about this story makes any sense. I've been through a number of MRI procedures and the screening process before you can get anywhere near the machine is intense.
They quiz you about any history of angle grinding, metal working, bench grinding, and especially welding. Apparently, guys don't always wear the appropriate eye protection and if you've engaged in the above activities, and who hasn't, you have tiny sometimes microscopic shards of metal imbedded in your eyeball. The shards will be violently and catastrophically ripped out as soon as you enter the MRI room.

She told News 12 that the technician summoned into the room her husband, who was wearing a 20-pound chain that he uses for weight training, an object they'd had a casual conversation about during a previous visit.

Who in the world walks around wearing a 20lbs chain around his neck?!

Platinum and gold are not magnetic

Before I got to the 20lb weight training chain, whatever that is to wear out and about daily, my thoughts were...
Wtf chain wouldn't just rip off and that mfr was wearing a faux gold chain.

This doesn’t sound real. An ignorant tech and an ignorant patient spouse both act this irresponsible?

Charge the tech with murder. For real. That is ridiculous. These frickers are supposed to be trained in this and that is something you can't forget. Last time I had to get an MRI, you should see the workers they have in these positions. Young idiots, half can't speak english and they couldn't give a shite about their jobs.
