This. Take the family to the Eunice run. Parade ends downtown on 2nd street sometime after lunch. Steve Riley plays on stage for the Mardi Gras at that time. It’s a good time.

I think Mamou is what pushed Bourdain to suicide.

I'm fairly confident this is what happened. What has been seen cannot be unseen.

in college we would go to the street dance down town Mamou and then watch the chicken chasing around the area (Eunice, Lawtell, etc) the next day. we stopped going to the street dance because of all of the local slim shady look a likes were looking for trouble and a couple of us traded punches with them one night. screw that place.

it's not a parade. it's a courir. it's people on horseback and trailers getting fricked up and dancing in yards. they will chase chickens and also dance on top of their horses. it's something to see.

Some of the best authentic Mardi Gras you will ever see. Really fun. Definitely not family friendly, especially if you have sheltered children. Where I grew up it was parents would let their kids run around freely for this.

Lots of fun though

Yeah, I agree most people don't care about that stuff. We had some random Dutch couch surfer with us I'd known for about 12 hours. When a local made a political statement, couch surfer girl was too dumb to let it go like the rest of us. She fired back and it got a little heated. We decided we'd worn out our welcome and better get her out of there before we found ourselves in fight we didn't want to have.

If you want to take your children to the emergency room in Mamou for a broken collar bone, stitches, busted lip and/or broken teeth, broken wrist or broken leg, go right ahead.. Mamou Mardi Gras isn't for children. It's all adults hanging out and dancing on 6th Street by Fred's and waiting for the horse riders to ride their horses up the street after the courier. The riders and horses will be drunk. There will be fights and drunks stumbling in the wet and muddy street.

Eunice parade is more family friendly, but not by much.

It ain't no damn New Orleans style parade, for sure.

It's a courrir, the annual chasing of the chickens and begging for ingredients for a communal gumbo.

The antics of the riders (chasing chickens and swan-diving off horseback) are as good entertainment as professional wrestling.

It isn't as great as it used to be but it is still pretty good.

The ville Platte one going away hurts my heart. As a kid that was spectacular to watch and I dreamt of the day I was old enough to ride my horse piss drunk down the street, dance with everyone's wives in their yards, and chase pissed off roosters through barbed wire fences in the mud.

They had a good thing going out there.

Moved to Eunice 5 years ago.

I've done Mamou, Church Pointe, and Eunice.

They are all essentially the same thing. If you want the family to experience it, go to 2nd Street in downtown Eunice around lunch time when they come through the end and experience it that way.

People come here from all over the country to see it, it's a good time.

Since Bourdain's last episode in this area we are getting way more tourists

The Mamou run is a bit more rowdy
