a parade of horses with drunks riding and stopping at front yards to chase chickens.

If you go thinking you're gonna see the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, you will be sorely disappointed.
It's a bunch of drunks riding through town in costumes on horseback. It's not fun if you're not either riding or drunk to where you're seeing double.

I went once, with a HS buddy of mine, back in 1992. His grandmother lived in Mamou so we stayed at her house. We got there on Friday night and immediately began drinking, that night and all day long on Saturday. By the time late Saturday night hit, I was exhausted and had one of the worst headaches of my life, likely from all the Torada tequila I had consumed. I told my buddy I wasn't feeling well and that I was walking back to his grandmother's house. When I got there it was very late and the door was locked, so I was fricked. My friend's car was parked in front and was unlocked so I climbed in the back seat and attempted to pass out. Not too long after that I heard a bunch of laughing so I sat up and saw my friend and his male cousin and three local Evangeline Parish chicks that they had hooked up with, including one for me. Now, if you know anything about Evangeline Parish you know that these broads weren't much to look at. The one they brought for me weighed more than I did (I weighed about 165 at the time). Anyway somehow we ended up at a bar on the outskirts of Mamou where everyone was drinking and dancing. I did not participate in the festivities. We missed the parades and horses and whatnot because we were incapacitated the following day. I don't remember much about the actual Mardi Gras part.

Dang, I was racking my brain trying to remember the name of that place. Got hit by an old man with his cane one day bc I said Edwin Edwards was a crooked governor.

Yeah, they loved Edwin back in the day. Especially T-Ed Manuel, the original owner of the Holiday (his son owns it now).

Never could understand that.
