I've got a feeling there will be some major changes to the water control systems in east and west LA as a result of this.
I've also got a feeling those changes will have a whole new set of unintended consequences. Mother nature is a bad MF.

Stair case on front leading to second level like the old NOLA homes built around the turn of the century. This thread has been eye opening for most i would think. Hopefully we never witness flooding again this widespread in our life times.

I know this guy as well. I'm not positive whether he has flood or not, but his house took some water in 1983, even though the house directly next door didn't. that house is like 1.5 feet higher than his is, so I think he's just in a low spot in a low-lying area in the first place.

Red River just south of Natchitoches Louisiana
Drove through there yesterday to get to Colfax area and was shocked by how much water is still in the area. Looks like I actually took a road that is still closed to get from 49 to Coushatta - not sure how it was open. We even passed a sheriff deputy by a barricade crossing some water. It looks like the Red at Grand Ecore is causing some serious backwater flooding. Many houses were visibly flooded just from I-49.

Let's hope it's even less than this forecast...
AREA FORECAST DISSCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW ORLEANS LA
746 AM CDT MON MAR 14 2016
LONG TERM...
SPLIT UPPER FLOW WILL CAUSE FRONTAL SYSTEM TO HANG UP NEAR OR OVER
THE AREA FROM THURSDAY INTO SATURDAY. WEAK IMPULSES MOVING THROUGH
THE SOUTHERN BRANCH WILL PRODUCE PERIODS OF SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS INTO SATURDAY. BY NO MEANS ARE WE LOOKING AT AN
EVENT LIKE LAST WEEK...BUT OVER THE THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY
PERIOD...IT LOOKS LIKE 1 TO 2 INCHES OF RAIN ACROSS AREAS THAT DO
NOT REALLY NEED RAIN RIGHT NOW. FINALLY...A STRONG NORTHERN STREAM
SHORTWAVE WILL SWEEP MOISTURE OUT OF THE AREA SATURDAY NIGHT.
It still looks like another round of rain is on tap this weekend and the 2" range looks about right. Then possibly another round of storms middle of next week with more heavy rain. In the longer range, the pattern continues to look wet through April. Hopefully, things are able to dry/drain enough during the breaks to prevent additional flooding.

Dealing with the aftermath of a flooded house is such a pain in the arse, I'd do everything I could to prevent it even if I had flood insurance. One day of work sandbagging vs months or longer of red tape, demolition, reconstruction, and replacement of contents.

Aside from a fire I agree. I went through a fire and lost everything. It was awful. But that doesn't even come close to what all these people are going through. I never thought I would see this much water even in la. I have lived here since 1979 and not seen hurricanes do this much flooding damage.
