This past weekend, I was in Denham Springs, so I decided to look in some of the antique shops. I usually don’t like them, it’s just over priced junk by some old lady.
Well, I find this “print” that the shop had marked as a nautical print, priced $125. It was under glass, but after studying it closer, I realized it was a painting, not a print. I let my wife talk me out of buying it. I get home and start researching the artist and realize, I messed up BIG time. I couldn’t get back there until today, and it’s been a LONG four days, waiting to go back and grab it.
I get there this morning as they opened, went straight to it and grabbed it. As I’m checking out, the guy realizes it’s a painting, not a print. He asks me a couple questions about the artist, etc, I play stupid. He asks me if I want him to call the dealer to see if I can get 10% off. I say no. Last thing I need is his telling the dealer it’s a painting, not a print.
I’m waiting to hear from the artist’s studio in Los Angeles, but from the pieces I’ve found on line, I think it’s valued at $5000-$10,000.
Heard from his studio, it is an original and valued at $7500+!!!

If it's worth $5-$10K are you gonna sell it?

I posted on purpose because I need chastised for letting her do it. She even said that it has never stopped me before.

So you're not going to tell us anything about the artist?

Not right away, maybe when my daughter goes to college. I actually like the painting, that’s what led me to it in the first place.

That's awesome.
I was working on the road with a guy back in the day. We passed the time one afternoon after finishing up with the client by walking downtown and checking the town out.
We walked by a pawn shop, and he saw they had a '62 Fender Jaguar through the window. The owner had no idea what it was worth. My buddy bought the thing for $125. He still has it, and plays it on a regular basis.

If you hadn't been so overly eager to get the painting, you probably could have gotten away with it. Bad move on your part.

1000’s of hits on Google and EBay. The man in the painting is named Hawk, and is based off the artist’s father. Aldo used Hawk in many of his paintings, and those are the pieces that go for higher amounts.

Scratch off some of the paint with your fingernail; $100 there's a number underneath it

That’s a pretty cool painting. I hope you’re keeping it. How big is it?
