The man charged with gunning down UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on a New York City street two years ago pleaded guilty to federal stalking charges in Manhattan Friday as Thompson’s family looked on.

Luigi Mangione, 28, revealed through his allocution to the court that he posed as a potential investor to confirm the location of the investors conference so he could track Thompson’s location.

He also told the judge that he was motivated to kill Thompson because of his experience with the healthcare system as a patient with a back injury.

Mangione faces a maximum sentence of life in prison. He will be sentenced at a separate hearing on Dec. 18.

Thompson’s family arrived in the courtroom shortly before the proceeding was set to begin. Pat Thompson, the victim’s mother, was in the front row along with other relatives and executives from UnitedHealthcare.

The Thompsons have largely remained out of the public eye since the executive was murdered.

George W Bush has a DUI too.

No wonder they couldn’t fly those planes straight on 9/11.

Reminder that united health insurance profit margins were not some scandal. They were right in light with economy wide average.

This is an odd turn. NY doesn't have the death penalty right? I guess he's thinking he'll get leniency for admitting to it.

The feds and the state were scared to death of bringing this to trial for fear of jury nullification.

Federally, Mangione is looking at a maximum penalty of life in prison without parole on each of the two counts he pleaded guilty to. Because the death-eligible murder charges were previously dismissed, federal prosecutors are officially seeking the absolute maximum under the law for his remaining charges

Possible. Also likely he’d prefer federal prison over Sing Sing. He’s going to fight the state charges, alleging double-jeopardy.

James Barnacle Jr., the head of the F.B.I. in New York, said at a news conference that he sat down with the Thompson family. “They are still grieving,” Barnacle said. “Brian was taken away in the most heinous way possible.” It's legitimately one of the least heinous ways possible to die. Heinous is watching a family member shrivel away to nothing from a treatable disease or disorder. Then potentially your bank account runs empty because health insurance isn't really health insurance and is more just a fee you pay for being sick and/or dying.

The communists' justification for murder is the idea of uniquely absurd profits at the cost of lives. Granted, they hate ALL private ownership and profit and want ALL capitalists dead, so it shirt off makes no difference. But that's the surface level claim. It's exactly on the point of the matter.
