I don't understand being so cautious to use a Fake ID at a Hostel but then not just laying low and avoiding eating inside McDonald's.

That’s been my suspicion too.
And another reason I figured he was just a guy with same basic experience and one too many invasive thoughts about being a vigilante hero.
Heck, I even nailed the escape to Pennsylvania but surprised he didn’t have a next step, whether vehicle or flight or different bus…. Really anything other than acting weird in a McDonald’s
